In moscow yesterday I saw an il-62 lower down to another level on the ground durning takeoff. It was neet looking, and I was wondering if any other airliners do it?

I don't think the IL62 has kneeling capability. What exactly did the aircraft do? When the rear tail prop is raised after loading, the tail will dip down towards the runway a bit, I think.

BTW, Sushka, are you in Samara? How did you get there?

This is sushka yes I live in samara. I saw the il 62 drop its nose a little and sort of bounce then it was at a lower level. This was at Moscow Domodedovo, Domodedovo Airlines.

I was not aware that an IL62 can lower itself. How does it do that?

I've seen IL62s do this, as well. I never thought of it as kneeling, but rather the aircraft powering up and responding to engine thrust. Also, the tail wheel does push the tail up a bit, forcing the nose slightly down, when it is lowered.

The IL62 is inherently tail heavy, thus the wheeled prop which is lowered during taxi and when parked.

The aircraft uses water ballast for trimming, which is pumped around the aircraft in a similar way to that which is used by Concorde (except Concorde uses its fuel as ballast).

What you probably saw was a settling of the aircraft to the desired angle for take-off after retraction of the prop - not something many people would notice, so have a badge for keen eyes!!
