I heard from some at YEG that it's rumored a European carrier is going to start a non-stop flights to Edmonton from a European origin 2X week.
Any one know anything else on this? It will be starting soon apparently. It's not London LHR-Edmonton with Air Canada, there already doing that one.
It would be nice to see.

Nope, not a Charter or Zoom.
BA, yes is running 777's LHR-YYC, but Edmonton is supposed to get something different and BIG.
My guess after looking deeper was probably Lufthansa.
There had been a rumour of LTU and if the flight is only 2xWeek LTU would be a good bet
Not sure if anyone in Edmonton knows this already but there is an article on YEG in the latest Airports of the World magazine - unfortuantely it makes no mention of the new AC LHR flight

Anything think of FlyGlobeSpan? They've been pushing into Canada and word is they might even take the London-St.John's route over that AC is so flippant with. I think they run 767s don't they? They could probably run a profitable direct route to YEG.
Shame that Martinair only does the route seasonally and it stops in Calgary on its way back (or at least it used to).

Nothing mentioned on LH winter 06/07 press release only new destination being CCU so not LH.
Nothing on Condor booking system either.
Nothing on LTU or Globespan. Globespan can't even fill its CPT from MAN & cancelling left right & centre how would they fill a Edmonton flight?
Maybe yr friends just got over excited, new conference centre & all that - Lets scream europe & hope they come.
Would be a bit sudden of any airline to announce this route if it was happening 'soon'. With no major press release now to take advantage of winter sports schedule either way. Maybe MacD of the airlineworld EK wants to link oil with oil via a random euro stop.

Threads on this topic have run previously. I was under the impression that YEG - Frankfurt was the concensus, but no one could really confirm whether it was to be operated by AC or LH...
I also am certain that this new flight is forecasted for the summer of 2007 and not hte winter 06/07 season...
Final preparations are still being finalized by airlines around the world for the summer 2007 season and not all routes have been announced yet. LH may still have something up its sleave... if it is LH of course.
Maybe in the future but their fleet is stretched enough at the moment and they are only just starting their own Vancouver and Calgary flights (jnstead of using Air Transat). I think they will want to let them get established before serving YEG

Some of the cancellations are to do with them leasing a B767 to Air India
LOT served YEG for a ten year period from 1991 to 2001 with a summer only YEG-WAW service. The flight operated weekly with some years even seeing twice weekly service. The IL-62 was used then 767-200's took over the route. The route was dropped after 911 but the airport has had high hopes that LOT will come back as loads were good on the route as Edmonton has the second largest population of Polish outside of Toronto in Canada.

LH is strongly rumored and a add-on to the exsisting YVR or PDX flights is what is being said may happen...Those summer 07 scheds havent been released yet so lets wait and see.
