I remember 5-6 years ago when they operated scheduled service into PHX. Whenever I was up there it was nice to see one.

I flew on it a few times. Once it was very empty (late night flight). The return was completely packed...it was a crazy! Lots of traffic between the 2 cities however.

5-6 years ago??? I believe service continued up until 2004 - last time I flew on it was 2004 MSP-PHX.
What I miss is the 747 they used to replace the DC-10 with on the MSP-PHX run. I remember NW used to overbook these flights (102 and 106) almost to the point of rediculousness. I remember one PHX-MSP flight that was upgraded to a 747-200 and they still left at least thirty people in the boarding area...

My father actually flew out to Phoenix en route to Tuscon in a DC-10 with NW. From his experience, it was a very nice flight. I hope you have a good time and please post a trip report!

Cheers,
Jeremy Carlisle

Even then 757s and 320s were the main types NW utilized on MSP-PHX-MSP, with DC-10-40s on some frequencies in NW's Oct-April timetables. In 1999, on both of two occasions when I was booked on flights having DC-10 as the scheduled equipment, 747s were substituted for the '10s; 747-151 N601US MSP-PHX in Mar '99 and 747-251B N632US in Dec of the same year. It was a year later (and several 757/320 rides in between), in Dec 2000, before the advertised DC-10 actually oprerated a MSP-PHX flight on which I was a pax.

The DC 10 operated the MSP - PHX flight 3 times a day for years in the winter. The 747 400 also did for a long time. At on point there were 3 747 a day.

Actually, at several points in the past few years, DC-10s were also used on one of the DTW-PHX flights (usually 257/262 IIRC). A few years ago this usually brought 4-5 DC-10s (when there weren't 747 substitutions...) to PHX on NW a day.
