With the Football charters thread I decided to see if anyone knows who the NHL teams use for travel?

I know that the Colorado Avalanche use Frontier

Anyone know of any others?

I am not 100% sure who uses them but Midwest is in YVR alot and parked at the Shell FBO. I remember a tread a while back that explained who uses this airline but i am not even going to try and search as the new search engine can not find anything. I believe AC has the contracts for most if not all the Canadian teams with there subsidy Jetz. I know 100% that the Vancouver Canucks use Jetz.

The Lightning use Miami Air, and there was a Miami Air 727 sitting on the ramp at TPA when the Florida Panthers were in town, so I'd guess that they also use them.

Pull up the NHL schedule then check out what teams are playing that night and where they go next, then check the Flight Trackers.

http://www.nhl.com/nhl/app?service=page&page=Schedule

http://flightaware.com/

For example the Ottawa Senators played New Jersey Devils on Friday night, then Saturday night they had a home game.

ACA7047
Air Canada "Air Canada" (Canada)
Aircraft Airbus A320 (twin-jet) (A320/Q)
Origin Newark/New York Liberty Int'l (KEWR)
Destination Ottawa Macdonald Cartier Int'l (CYOW)
Route GREKI V419 JUDDS CAM MSS CYRIL DEANS2
Date Friday, Nov 17, 2006
Duration 56 minutes
Status Arrived over 16 hours ago (track log)
Departure 11:30PM EST 11:46PM EST
Arrival 12:20AM EST 12:42AM EST
Speed 443 kts
Altitude 35000 feet

So we can see that the Ottawa Senators use Air Canada Jetz

The Colorado Avalanch played the Columbus Blue Jackets on Friday night, then Saturday night play the Minnesota Wild.

PCE2316
Piedmont Aviation Services, Inc. D/B/A Pace Airlines "Pace"
Aircraft Boeing 757-200 (twin-jet) (B752/J)
Origin Port Columbus Int'l (KCMH)
Destination Minneapolis St Paul Int'l (KMSP)
Route TRAKK J30 MOPER J84 OBK J89 BAE EAU8
Date Friday, Nov 17, 2006
Duration 1 hour 29 minutes
Status Arrived over 17 hours ago (track log)
Departure 10:30PM EST 10:50PM EST
Arrival 11:04PM CST 11:19PM CST
Speed 461 kts
Altitude 38000 feet

So it would appear the Avalanch use PACE (and not Frontier) at least this time anyway.

etc., etc., etc.,

Now get to work all you aerogeek hockey fans and compile a complete list.

Often, teams playing the Bruins in Boston arrive and depart from Hanscom Field in Bedford, Massachusetts rather than from Boston's Logan. Likewise, I use Flightaware to piece it together.

The Avalanche used to use Northwest when they had the specially configured charter 727's, im surprised NW hasn't turned a few A320's into those.

How about the Devils? Anyone know what they used to get to Toronto on Saturday and what they're using to get to Phoenix? I know in NJ they use Teterboro, what airport do they use in Toronto?

They actually used Air Canada (ACA7027) on Friday night to fly up to YUL for last night's game. They flew back from YUL on YX.

The St. Louis Blues are another one of Midwest's customers as well.

I would be surprised if any sports (or otherwise) charter to Toronto used anything but YYZ. I believe regulations prohibit landing jets at YTZ - while it's far closer to the Air Canada Centre, many jets wouldn't be able to use the 4,000 foot runway anyways. YZD isn't really used by much of anyone other than Bombardier, I don't think. Other than all those, the only other suitable airport would probably be YHM... but that's probably 60 miles from downtown Toronto.

Actually its SportsJet, based out of Phoenix. Pace provides the crews etc and operates with a pace Flt number. Sportsjets is the carrier for the Coyotes, Diamonbacks, and Suns. Pace also provides the crews etc for the NBA's Mavericks plane.

Actually we fairly often get NHL charters into YHM. Depends on the arrival time. Ex if lets ya Boston Bruins played on wednesday night and then thursday they have a game in Toronto due to night restrictions in yyz they come here.

I asked this in a thread about the World Series charters, but got no response:

Often in hockey, teams will play a "home and home" series, for instance St. Louis at Toronto on Tuesday, then Toronto at St. Louis on Thursday (with neither team playing on Wednesday). So, both teams need to fly YYZ-STL. Would they ever charter a flight together? Or is this simply not done?

It's not done at all. Back during the preseason, the Thrashers and Blues had a home and home and flew out of ATL within minutes of each other. They both used Midwest, but the Thrashers' flight flew into STL while the Blues' flight flew into SUS. Sometimes teams don't even fly into the main airport. The Florida Panthers flew into BED instead of BOS yesterday for tonight's game against BOS. I know that most teams that fly in to play the Isles fly into FRG instead of ISP (Mainly because it's closer to the Nassau County Mausoleum Veteran's Memorial Colosseum). Same is true in Dallas as well. Team charters will use DAL instead of DFW.

I saw an AC Jetz A319 or 320 a few weeks ago at CMH that brought the Calgary Flames in for the Blue Jackets game.

As for the Jackets, they have an ex-Legend Airlines DC-9 of their own:

You couldn't get two hockey teams onto a narrowbody aircraft (maybe a 757). They have too much cargo. When a team has a long road trip even the pits in the A320 get tight.

Pilotpip has got it right about about the pits of a A320 getting tight on long road trips, after doing hockey charters for 7 years and working every a/c type that have been used for them you get to know what works and what doesn't.I can say the worst I've seen was when Carolina used to chater a DC-9-15,not much room down below but we made it fit.I found that the 727-200 was the best, just because of the amount of room you had in all the pits combined, the 2nd worst was when AC Jetz first started out with the 737-200ER that they inherited from the Canadian merger, you lost an entire hold(pit #3) to the aux fuel tank. This was a real problem in pre-season play simply because the teams hadn't made thier cuts yet and we actually had to put bags in one of the rear lavs.

I know that the Dallas Stars and The Texas Rangers use the same Boeing 727 and it is based at Dallas Love Field. Of course almost everyone knows that the Dallas Mavericks use their own B-757.

However, that bird was in Europe earlier this week and last week. Some high $$$$ people used it to fly to Tom and Katie's wedding in Italy. The poor Mavericks had to suffer and use someone else's aircraft this week.
