Seeing a widebody fly over today made me look up on the flightaware to see what it was, turns out its Boeing flight #1 (BOE1). Its a 744R, my first question is what is the "R" mean, and does anyone have any idea what one of Boeing's 747 it is? If you look up this flight its doing some strange turns and passes over northern North Dakota, anyone have any ideas what they are doing with this flight? It left an air force base and will return to the same. Could this be the 747LCF doing some flight testing????

Post the link.

This one did something of that nature. Surely a maintenance run for DHL?

Don't know about the "R?" I can find the NZ has at least one in their fleet and I have deducted, rightly or wrongly, that it is "refitted?"

That's the ATC flight plan suffix for what type of nav equipment they have...

Again, the "/R" in the context it's used on flightaware.com's website is the ATC equipment suffix, i.e. what navigational capability the aircraft has....

I tried to find a recent link to the Airborne Laser program that is taking place in Wichita, but I cannot find it anymore. They had a deal on it a couple of weeks ago on the Wichita news. I believe most of the conversion work is taking place in Wichita and is near completion.
