Giant icebergs that have strayed north from Antarctica are causing civil aviation officials a headache.

Last week tourists started flying to a group of icebergs that were spotted off the Dunedin coastline.
But the biggest icebergs are still out of range for most tourists.

Estimated at over a kilometre long, another giant iceberg was spotted on Saturday by Christchurch helicopter pilot Andrew Reid.

Calm conditions meant he could land the helicopter.
