Although I have never flown Delta or United I think Delta is better when it comes to international flights. If I am right Delta serves more destinations in Europe and flies more frequent than United does. Delta has also a very strong hub in Atlanta which makes transferring to many destinations possible. So It think delta is better than United.

As a passenger in an aircraft the airline size or route network are next to meaningless. What matters are safety, service and punctuality. These two airlines are very close but I would go with Delta as the service I received was better than I ever had on United.

Delta is way better than United. United is never On-Time, Prices are to high, Too many Airbus Aircraft, and their Route Structure isnt very good.

If that doesent answer your question go to www.untied.com

DELTA #1

I would go with DL too, although I kind of like the star alliance carriers a little more, especially SIA.
Nevertheless I am a Member of both their Frequent Flyer Programs.......

I've flown on both in the past 6 months..I would have to go with DL. I abosolutely hate United's Airbus fleet, sitting in it like its going to fall apart while rolling down the runway. Although it might not be the planes fault, I had my most turbulent flight of my life on a UAL A320. With UAL we had several minor delays, and one missed connection due to their lack of gates at DEN. DL was always on-time, the sevice was good for the 20 minute flights I was on - CLE-CVG-LEX and back.

I would have said United at one time but after this past Summer of United hell I am flying Delta and am very happy with the service I receive.

United...sorry, I'm going with Delta! United frustrated me on so many flights. From a broken audio channel and no toilet paper, to no seat reservations and rude personnel, they have been nothing but a disappointment. Maybe their multi-million dollar loss for the summer will send them a message! On the other hand, I have had nothing but great experiences with Delta. Free upgrades and friendly flight crews make flying an ENJOYABLE experience.

I am a very veyr frequent flyer on united. However this past year I had the opportunity to fly delta to barcelona in april and then madrid in june. I would have to say that delta's flight attendants are some of the ruddest and most obnoxious in the air. I will never fly delta again because of that. Delta food on domestic and international flights are terrible.

United has had alot of problems this summer and all of my flights this last year were either delayed or cancelled and yes the airport personnel were rather rude. However the flight attendants made up for that. I may be bias towards united because i have had alot of flight attendants more than once. It is nice going on a plane and having the flight attendants recongnize you and you recognizing them. That is one of the reasons i fly united. The flight attendants are amazing. They may not be the most elegant, but they are fun and very nice to talk with.

Hello,
I've had the opportunity to fly to SFO from BUR in 98 on United, and I have to admit that the flight wasn't that bad (one thing bad was that my luggage never made it on time to my connecting flight to Crescent City, CA). The flight from CEC to LAX was allright. The flight attendants were nice and I did enjoy the flight. Whenever I fly Delta, well that's a different story. Flying international and domestic on Delta is by all means the best. I can say that Delta is by all means better than United (domestically). Internationally, well I haven't flown on United to MEX nor do I have any intentions on doing so because Delta is the best. Please don't think that I don't like United because I have to say that it's a good airline like any other, but I just feel that Delta is #1 in my opinion. If you going to choose between Delta or United, Fly Delta.

"Fly somewhere fun!"-Delta.

Although I live in Atlanta I would a lot rather fly United.I personally love being able to listen to audio channel 9 and keep up with pilot-atc communications. Also I will have to second ASPEN1 on his comments about Delta's flight attendents.I sometime wander if they learn rudeness in FA training or is that a natural trait that most just seem to have.If you are lucky enough to get a meal on Delta you can expect the worst. My advice always bring your own food on-board.

Delta is much better than United. they arent even in the same category!

Delta has much better service, better routes, more friendly employees, and much better stats.

SKYTEAM,

Too many Airbus aircraft? That is a problem because of????? I'm sorry but you just stumped me. I have never heard of such a foolish and ignorant reason for disliking an airline! Whats next, too many aircraft????????

I travel United every week, and UAL is a perfectly fine airline (now that they've gotten their labor issues mostly straightened up).

For anyone who says that Delta has a better route structure, I'd have to disagree, especially because I live in the West. UAL has a ton of Pacific routes that Delta can only dream about, including an around the world flight that I would love to fly someday. Throw in the Star Alliance, and UAL has a much better route structure than Delta.

Delta is a fine airline (I've flown them a couple of times this year), but UAL offers far more choices out of LAX, and that is my #1 requirement for an airline.

One issue: I have to agree about the UAL A320. I flew in April LAX-MCO on a 320, and the thing almost shook itself apart when we landed at MCO. It was ridiculous. I've been on other 320s, and this didn't seem to be a problem. Other than that, I don't view having Airbus aircraft as a liability or a reason to dislike an airline.

Skyteam, I haven't looked at your profile, but I'm assuming you are under 20.

United having a worse system than Delta??

Interesting.... when UA was having all of it's problems in August, why is it that every airline analyst said UA will be OK in the long run because it has the "best US domestic and International System & Alliance set up" ???? If you look at a United Airlines route map, why is it that all of the West Coast, Midwest, and East coast are blanketed?? Why is it the Pacific and part of the Atlantic are covered with routes?

And didn't your beloved Delta just pull international flights out of PDX?? didn't Delta's beloved Skywest decide to feed UNITED into PDX w/ 50 some Skywest regoinal flights instead of Delta ??

Anyhow--- there are pros and cons for Both. bad thing - I know more about United than delta.. sorry... ALSO no mentoin of their Frequent Flyer agreement!!!!!

United
- Inflight audio on all flights but 737-200
- meals SERVED INFLIGHT.. no Bistro bags in the gate
- McDonalds Kids Meal for the childrens
- first 777 operator
- E ticket
- mobile Counters
- Palm IV and Flight Paging
- first to fly REGIONAL JETS -- Air Wisconsin 146s in 1986
- no charge for headsets
- improved ergonomic seating
- 3 Class International Operations
- Economy Plus (beat American to it!!)
- HUBS: ORD, DEN, IAD, MIA, SFO, LAX, SEA, HNL, NRT, LHR
- major operational problems this year, pilots & DC 10s
- complete Unions & mobsters (heh)

Delta
- First regional w/ all jet fleet hub (or soon to be)
- Controls all of it's regional feeders less 9N / T States
- Delta Express operations effectively competing against US, WN
- streamlined services to 2 class, offering BusinessElite
- HUGE JFK presence, thanks to Pan Am
- new and growing South American routes
- more 777s coming online, as are 737-800s and 767-400s
- restructuring of SLC to give more flying to the East coast
- enhanced service from JFK
- HUBS: CVG, ATL, SLC, JFK, FRA (does it still count?)

being from Illinois originally, my vote sticks w/ United... I just think that picking up a meal in the jetway from a cooler is tacky...... OTOH, I do like ATL as a hub and the new paint jobs.. DL has good management too

With my job I get the choice of UA,AA,or DL. I always choose UA. I've had okay experiences with all of them, but I think UA is the best. I end up flying once or twice a week so I notice a lot of the details. UA's route structure is clearly better than DL.

In terms of route networks, both airlines have their strengths and weaknesses.

UAL is weak in the southeast while Delta is weak out in the west. United is very strong in Asia but doesn't have a whole lot in Europe. Delta is very strong in Europe but has little to nothing in Asia. In terms of Latin America, United was way ahead of Delta but now Delta has caught up and seems to be much more aggressively growinin in that region.

In terms of hubs, I disagree with what Segment King calls a hub. I don't feel that MIA, SEA, HNL or LHR are hubs for United. Hubs are where people can transfer and make connections to many (which means more than just two or three) other flights. How many people are making connecting flights on UAL in SEA, HNL, or MIA? LHR is a hub but for BA not UAL. By your definition, Delta should be able to call LAX a hub which it really isn't, sure you can make a few connections but not enough to be a hub...more like an international gateway.

For UAL
Hubs: ORD, DEN, IAD, SFO, LAX and to a lesser extent NRT
Int'l Gateways: SEA, MIA, JFK, BOS (??)

For DL
Hubs: ATL, CVG, SLC, DFW, JFK and to some extent MCO
Int'l Gateways: LAX and BOS (starting next year)

Personally, I have had good experiences flying both airlines. The only reason I prefer DL is that I am from the south where DL dominates my home airport.

Heya, Thats only a small part of the reason I think Delta is better. I am not a big fan of Airbus, and never will be. I find Boeing's planes to be much more spacious, better built, and more powerful.

SKYTEAM

P.S. I dont plan to hate an airline if they have to much aircraft

Miami is a HUB for United as it is the departure point for many South American Destinations, offering service to LAX, SFO, DEN, DCA, LGA, IAD, ORD, and a few other domestic points, as well as Continental Connection/Gulfstream commuter flights.

Seattle is a HUB for United as it has flights to ANC, NRT, YVR, about 70 Skywest flights, and other domestic service to the hubs and JFK, BOS (unless they killed it)

Honolulu -- eh.. still big presence and crew base... but UA still has the HNL - NRT flights

and yes, London should be considered a hub.. United still has AMS service from there and soon to be New Delhi... but I guess we can take a page outta the TWA links and call London & Honoluly "Focus Cities" *smirk*

>>> DELTA <<<

what's going on in Los Angeles??? Are they ever going to get a new feeder there?

SKYTEAM,
Well most people agree that the A320 is a more comfortable aircraft than the 737. For one thing, its more spacious and flys better. Its also quieter and less sensetive to turbulence. Other than that, I guess I can agree with you.
