I fly into ORF a lot as a pilot. ORF is probably the toughest place to get a good landing. There are a bunch of reasons for it, the most obvious is the pavement. It is in horible shape perticularly in the touch down zone. Another reason is the arrestor cables, all the runways that have these make it very hard if you touch down where these are. Finally and not nearly as important is the upslope. Runway 5 (i think it is) slopes pretty steep up the first 2000 feet. Anyways Im good at making excuses . I have had a few "good" landings there, but it is definatly a lot tougher than at other airports.

Yup, ORF doesnt get any military aircraft so there is no point having arresting cables at ORF. I flew in and out of ORF all the time since I live in Virginia Beach. I've flown in an out of KNTU couple times and usually the landings there are fairly rough. Always have smooth landings on Delta outta ORF...Maybe it's the Eagle pilots, not the runway. Flying in ORF in a 172 also fun.

ORF has the worst runway pavement out of all the airports I fly to. I don't even try and grease them on there anymore. Closing it for repavement would create a giant hassle and restrict lots of fully loaded operations.
There are 3 types of people in this world, those that can count, and those that can't.

Unfortunately, the same would apply to a lot of single runway airports, since they can't close the runways without creating a huge debacle.
