I've been checking the KLM timetable lately for transatlantic flights next spring and summer and sadly witnessed that routes like LIM, SFO, CAI, which previously operated on MD-11 have all been replaced with B772. It's rather sad because I want to be able to catch the MD-11 before its retired. Does anybody have exact dates for when will these magnificent flying metal will be gone from the KLM fleet?

MD11s will not be retired until the 2012-2015 timeframe. The entire MD11 fleet is currently undergoing a retrofit, which will see the new business class seats installed and, in a later stage, will also feature PTVs in economy. Next summer, the MD11s are deployed to some different markets, including the Caribbean (CUR, SXM, BON, AUA), previously served by the B744 full pax but soon the be uniquely served by the MD11. The aircraft will also be deployed to UIO, GYE, LOS, DAR, JRO, DEL, EWR (3 months only), YUL and YVR.
