It's not quite a trip report, that's why I'll try to post here.
I am a Star Alliance slave in Europe, my usual choice for flights within the U.S. would be United but recently I took a number of flights on US Airways. The fares and times were just too good to miss.
I found out that the US/HP integration is still more a wish than a real thing. I have booked the tickets on usairways.com. The US Airways desk at the aiport wouldn't print a receipt for the e-ticket: "sir, we can't do it, this is an America West ticket and we don't have an America West station at our airport". Do they still use separate booking system ? The flights were a mixture of US and HP mainline plus US Express. Only afterwards did I find out the I won't be getting any Lufthansa Miles for flights on America West metal. Strange, given the fact that the planes on those flights have been painted in the new, shiny, US Airways colors.
One of the flights was Republic EMB-170 for US Airways Express. A great small plane with huge windows. However, I was surprised to see how worn out it was inside. That plane could have been three years old at most, it looked scratched, not very clean. They must run them pretty hard at Republic. All the same the ride was great and the approach into DCA was very spectacular. On the way back I took a US 737-300 and that way I found out what a REALLY worn out plane looks like.
On the contrary, all Airbus flights, including a couple of transcons were very pleasant. The load factors on transcons were between 80 and 100%. Other flights, like HP up and down the West Coast from/to PHX were fairly light, around 50%. I found the PHX hub nice and adequate. My favorite for the US Airways system remains CLT, especially the new D concourse.
To sum it up, an altogether pleasant experience. But, please, next time I fly with you, make it work as one airline.

I usually have good experiences on US and frequently fly CLT-LAS nonstop. I recently took a reward trip that had the strange routing LAS-DEN-CLT. Whatever, it was free. Since my travel started on HP I went to the HP line. I told the agent we were traveling to CLT via DEN. I think she shut down when she heard CLT because she informed me that we had to go to US line, which I did, and was informed by the US agent I was in the wrong line. The helpful US gentleman walked down to the HP agent and procured our BPs. Of course we then had to backtrack to take our bags to the HP bag scanner thingy. It will be nice when they get the systems integrated (next year?) and this mess goes away, but I'm optimistic about post-merger (pre-Delta!) US.

Well when Mid-Atlantic had the planes before we got them they were not well taken care of. Our MX and Cleaning departments do a good job taking of the planes. The planes are probably close to 4 years or so old. The S5 birds tho are immaculate. The US system all over is really horrendous looking. I commute on US every now and again and always outside of the 333 I took to MAN every plane was just old and nasty looking.

From Reservation to Execution my most recent experience with US/HP was a clusterfuck . . . all the way around. It will be a rare thing if I dare fly US/HP again in the near future . . . and that's a shame - having been a Chairman's Preferred on US, and a Platinum on HP, I hate to see what has become of the two through this merger.
There was a lengthy thread in Civ-Av about that fiasco, alas this most useless POS Search Engine Johan has installed here doesn't allow it to be found.

It's been difficult during the integration. Thankfully we are at the tail end of it...only a few months and things should run much smoother. The biggest problem has been operating under 2 rez systems. Though some stations (mine included) has access to Sabre and we can do everything US east employees can practically. That has made things easier.
