Mexicana will begin shuttle bus service between its flights at FAT and 10 California cities on Dec 1. The buses will allow Mexicana passengers to avoid up to 2 hour drives from outlying communities to FAT.
I wonder if this indicates more flights being announced soon at FAT. Start a service to bring in more passengers then use that to feed more flights.
The buses range in size from 36 seats to 52 seats. They are equipped with amenities such as TV monitors.
Cities initially served will be Delano, Tulare, Hanford, Goshen, Dinuba, and Selma to the south of Fresno. Northern cities include Modesto, Merced, and Madera with Kerman to the west of Fresno.
The northern most point, Modesto, is 100 miles north of Fresno, 90 miles south of SMF and 75 miles east of OAK. Nice demarkation line to split up the geographic market.
I find Delano interesting since it is 75 miles south of Fresno but only 30 from Mexicana's planned BFL service. I wonder if the bus will later be changed to go from Delano to BFL.

I for one am happy to see Mexicana slowly expanding in their nitch which is the USA and Canada. It is very dangerous right now for a Mexican Airline to be expanding to other countries especially with all the domestic competition that Aeromexico is getting on their domestic flights.
I believe Mexicana will grow but very calculative and when the time is right.
I think you would agree with me that the world aviation is still under a lot of uncertanty.

Not sure if California is a big source of AM revenue, as their presence there is not so significant (dwarfed by MX's). I think AM spreads its sources of revenue among more routes... I am sure Europe is a big source of revenue, and perhaps JFK too. Nowadays, GRU must be a big provider of cash too. And some domestic routes with little or no competition probably still provide significant revenue.

And they make a lot of money on them - not from charging exorbitant fares on most flights, but from giving the customer what he wants and needs for a decent and justifiable cost. And since many more loyal customers and customers-to-be don't live in BFL, FAT, or SMF, extending a bus connection to those in need (again, I'm sure, for a very competitive fee) is a courtesy for the customer as well as good business sense for AM and MX.
