AirMidwest At VIS, MCE; Rough First 2 Days

Air Midwest's takeover of the EAS service at Visalia (VIS) and Merced (MCE) has had a couple of bad days for its first 2 days of flights.

All first day flights on Sunday were cancelled as well as most of the 2nd day flights.

Part of it is weather related. The Central Valley has had a few days of fog. That resulted in some flights cancelled.

But there also appear to have been several mechanical problems.

According to these articles, after the fog cancellations ended on Sunday, the late LAS-VIS-MCE-LAS flight (which would have finally been the first flight) ended up cancelled due to mechanical problems with the aircraft in LAS. That was repaired too late and no Sunday flights operated.

Then the 2nd day's first flight from LAS to VIS is said to have been overweight, with the passenger load being initially reduced from 17 to 12 then again from 12 to 7 passengers. The pilot then identified a sensor malfunction which meant a replacement aircraft had to be brought in.

It was late afternoon Monday before any flight finally left LAS for the 2 California cities. First arrival was 4:30 PM Monday, instead of Sunday.

I do hope these are just a few bad luck snafus and the flights will do well. Most Valley residents understand the fog problems.

But the mechanicals on top of that are another story. If they continue to get bad publicity like these articles then passenger perceptions of reliability will drop.

I hope the weight restriction doesnt happen often... 7 people on what I presume is a 1900 isn't much...

That surprised me to and I wondered if it was related to the mechanical. Bad info from a faulty sensor?

How can they have a weight restriction on a 1900? In terms of runway length, I'd think 5000ft t/o length is very generous for a 1900 to do a 300nm flight with full pax+baggage+fuel.

Actually when ZV flew the 1900 from ACY-PHL (50nm) they would always have restrictions when it was full, not because of the weight so much, but because the CG was off... Of course, this started to occur after the FAA raised the average pax/bag weights.
