Hi all IB is going to start a new route to Algiers twice a week. Do you think this route will work or should they have looked more towards eastern europe?

These are my principles but if you don't like them I have others

MAD and BCN are two destinations with the highest potential from BEG, yet there are no direct services. Hope that IB looks into these flights at some stage.

Arger might works twice a week with A-319.

About Algeria, BA serves Arger and another place called Hassi Messaoud in central Algeria which I find a little odd. I suppose it's because gas as that place is in the middle of nowhere very close to the Sahara desert.

MAD-ALG should not be more than 1 hour 15 minutes.

I'm sure this route will work as ALG lacks of EU fights. It will give more choice to customers

There are hardly any North-South-connections between the Iberian peninsula and Northern Africa, so I suppose this route should work, especially in a low-risk volume like this (2x/week, A319).

Who would have thought that MAD-TNG would be succesful? Nowadays this route is flown daily with an MD-87. Not bad for a niche destination.

Iberia will use the new terminal in Algiers that opened several months ago, with 14 jetbridges.

I just wonder if IB will ever start flying to PRG, Czech Airlines is planning 16 weekly flights to MAD as of S07 ( 14 weekly in W06/07) and is having 14 weekly flights to BCN. UX is operating MAD PRG and Clickair will start soon BCN PRG on daily basis. I really miss them here.

just fly - it is nice

Spanair will also start flying to ALG from MAD 3x weekly and from BCN 4x weekly.

Not likely in the near future. There was a question about it in one of the last issues of Iberia employee magazine and the answer was that there is not enough traffic between Spain and Serbia to start this route. Very low priority for IB.

Most of the passengers that use this route are connecting from European cities, above all AMS.

Iberworld also flies to Hassi Messaoud from Madrid once a week. At least they did in the summer and I think they still do. Probably as you said a flight for the gas companies employees.

I'm sure that AF, AZ and LH will be devastated by this decision Big grin
