This may have been discussed before, or I might be asking a really silly question, but during Thanksgiving, people tend to eat a lot and gain extra pounds. Do airlines keep track of how much extra it costs to haul those overstuffed passengers back home after Thanksgiving?

In a word, no. Most large airlines (air carrier jets, etc.) use a system of averaged passenger weights which change over from summer (lighter closthing, no coats, etc.) to winter heavier clothing and coats), and unless it's an airline that measures actual passenger weights via a scale, the average weight system seems to be the norm AFAIK...

How much weight do you gain at Thanksgiving. Do you weigh yourself before eating and after? maybe 2-5 pounds per person, and even that is alot of food to be sitting around inside of you. Times a hundred people on an airplane isn't enough weight for the airline to care about IMO. And the standard weights they use are generally a good enough average.

That pretty much is the SOP industry-wide, IIRC...
