I was wondering if anyone has new pictures of the new terminals(already seen the ones on AA.com) and how's the progress of terminal 8 coming along? Is it still the hedious looking thing it was last March when I flew to SDQ?

I was there last night flying from SDQ and they're still building out in the the area that was once T9. From the artist impressions posted around the terminal it doesn't look like they'll be adding to the T8 area per the original plan drawn up in 1998. Too bad, it'll look like a half done terminal.

It already does! Well, we are beginning to learn that AA should not be in the terminal designing business. They have a couple of messes on their hands, add MIA to that list!

Stick to flying AA!

Does anyone have any recent pics of the terminals? I am flying in there next month and am interested in seeing.

Here's a fantasy dream but wouldn't JFK be a whole lot better if all of the land area were simply demolished and then overnight the terminals had concourses attached to them like "real" airports got. All buildings were pristine clean, modern and la la la la la la la la la la

Has anyone been to the AA terminal to pick up somebody, during the last couple of years....? Short term parking is some one mile away (!), and you just don't want to ride a shuttle bus to get back to your car, and that with with your tired guest, and his/her luggage. The only way is to wait in a car on a tow-away zone, and look around for police patrols (that do come there). Then if your overseas guest doesn't have a US cell phone, so he/she can't call you about getting out of the terminal...it is a big effort to meet anyone there. Therefore I have been asking everybody to select another airline than anyone flying to T8/T9. Looks like the new garage might be ready soon, but that is not a day too early!

When I flew in last week, they just opened the new parking garage next to the terminal, VERY short walk. It was all short term parking (they had signs up informing drivers that there was cheaper long-term parking a bit further away).
Although, for it's proximity $35* a day did not seem bad

*It might have been more, I don't quite remember

Have you been to JFK lately? Most of the terminals are pristine clean and modern...T1,T4,T6,T7, T9 are all in top notch shape. It is only Delta and American that have terminals that are messes.

It's a real mess...I usually park in the T7 parking lot on the rooftop, right next to the airTrain entrance and take the quick ride over there...But yes, quite a mess as it is now.

Frankly, I don't even care if they expand new T9 to the old T8 space, I just want to know when they will TEAR DOWN that DREADFUL T8 terminal and open a decent immigration facility for overseas arrivals! I flew JFK-LHR-JFK in October and could not believe the old T8 baggage claim and immigration facility was still being used.

More questions:

- Will T9 be renamed "T8" once the old facility is torn down? Will T7-T9 also be renamed after B6 inaugurates its new terminal at the old TW T5 and razes T6 in 2009??

- If so, the BA and UA terminal [which BTW looks nice] will be renamed "T6", while AA would be "T7", very, very confusing!

Yes, in fact, you can already see evidence of this in T9 as the shopping in T9 is collectively called "The Shops at Eight" in all the promotional posters in the terminal. Last I checked, the additional gates being added by gate 12 are ahead of schedule and will be complete in March. At the same time, the new baggage/ticketing area is behind schedule because of delivery issues with the large, white trusses that make the ceiling. Because of that, there may not be enough baggage space to open those new gates until that part is complete. At any rate, the additional ticketing/baggage area should be finished by May.

Once all flights move from T8 to T9, T8 will be demolished. AA had tried to get PANYNJ to take over the terminal for another airline's use, but PANYNJ declined. AA was trying to save money on demolition costs as they no longer need to remove that terminal for expansion. As someone mentioned, that part of the project has been cancelled. T8 will come down, very soon after the rest of T9 opens. Sometime in June if current time tables remain in place.

The customs/immigration hall is comig along as equipment is being set up now to begin using that space. It has taken this long to get customs over to T9 because customs/immigration didn't want to operate two arrivals areas. The work has to be complete and all int'l arrivals moved to T9 at once for customs to move there. We've got about six more months and T9 should be fully up and operational. And as you all have mentioned, none to soon.

And as others have mentioned, the parking garage is now open. It opened November 15 at noon. Prices are as follows: First 15 minutes free, 15-30 minutes $3, first hour $6 and every hour/partial hour thereafter $3 up to daily max of $30.

I don't think they were going to tear down T6. I might be wrong though. They'll either use some space or give it back to the PANYNJ for other airlines. What they should do is build a new terminal for other carriers.

Any chance that AA will build out on the T8 side and make the terminal complete as originally envisioned? I trully hope they do that. Hate the final look it'll have when it's "finished" next year.

Yes indeed they are in top notch.
Only one that is bad is the Delta terminal. This is an absolute mess of a terminal. You would imagine Delta rebuilding that terminal specially considering how important JFK is becoming to them..... but only time will tell.

Terminal's 2 nnd 3 are terrible and DL has only been doing minimal upkeep and maintenance. They can't do too much given their financial situation. Perhaps after they're situation is resolved they can dust off the plans they had for expanding T4 and moving their international ops there and totally redoing T2. They would have torn down T3 (ex Pan Am WorldPort) as part of those plans and used the space as remote parking.

I know it's been asked on here before, but how many gates do the original plan and the current plan have, and what's the breakdown of them (such as widebody gates vs. narrowbody gates, gates with access to immigration/customs)?

I think they were supposed to have 37 widebody/narrowbody gates and about 18 RJ gates(total of about 55 gates) but then AA cut backone the RJ and I think they did a further cutback on the mainline jet gates after that though I don't know how many of each.

My understaning is the PANYNJ will tear down T6 to make way for the new B6 T5 terminal when it is inaugurated in 2009.
