It could be for Hajj charters but I doubt it, PIA usually leases widebodies for that purpose. It could be related with PIA ongoing problems with the EU regarding its maintenance practices. PIA has withdrawn certain widebody aircraft from serving the US and Europe. These A321s would probably replace widebodies currently plying the Middle East, freeing them up for European and US service. Just my guess, of course.  biggrin

Actually the widebodies will be back to Europe as the EASA is on the verge of approving the planes again...

Widebodies are still being flown to the Middle East (B777 and A310)....I think these A321's will be temporary.

Quite right Cloud4000.The A321 are indeed doing regional flights to the gulf. All KHI-DXB flights are atleast A321 right now i think. These planes certainly would not be used for Hajj,as you correctly mentioned PK needs widebodies for that.

I'll check if I see them coming into DXB this weekend.
So the Luzair L1011 is no longer flying for PIA?

A321 are doing Dubai from Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad and Peshawar. L1011 is flying daily Karachi-Peshawar.

They could be in the fleet for a couple of years considering they have been painted in full PIA scheme(flag tail) and PIA did place a tender in papers seeking these types for two years.

I saw two PIA A321s at DXB this morning. One was TC-IEG! I didn't get the reg of the other one.

AeroTransport Data Bank says they are
TC-IEF c/n 968
TC-IEG c/n 974

Checking my shots from today, I have found one of TC-IEH - it's being operated by Air Blue, not PIA.

IIRC..it depends on their leases too..they are subleased...belong to ILFC for BD, but are leased to another company until 2010, and being subleased by PK.....

Can anyoine conform the exact flights and how long this is for? I still have a valid visa for Pakistan and could easily catch a ride on the L1011. Any info at all appreciated.

Not in the latest colored tails scheme per se, but they look to be in the full last colors (flag tail)...

Konstantin-are you still shooting slides on the side or completely digital?

Nice picture showing the 2 PIA A321s in the flag livery. I just hope PIA will now repaint all the aircraft that are wearing those different tail livery designs back to the flag design.

Thankfully the flag tail is not happeninng, how you like such a pathetic scheme is beyond comprehension, the tails have livened up the image a tad and they look delightful when different ones are parked next to each other, we are happy.
