So there is a major snowstorm heading into the midwest and things will get very interesting. Chicago and much of the midwest is under a winter storm warning. The National Weather service issued this warning:

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE AT Macedonian Airlines (Greece)">IN CHICAGO HAS ISSUED A WINTER STORM WARNING...WHICH IS AT Macedonian Airlines (Greece)">IN EFFECT FROM 3 PM THIS AFTERNOON TO 12 PM CST FRIDAY. THE WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY HAS BEEN CANCELLED. THE WINTER STORM WATCH IS NO LONGER AT Macedonian Airlines (Greece)">IN EFFECT.

SNOW IS EXPECTED TO DEVELOP LATE THIS AFTERNOON AND THIS EVENING AND CONTINUE INTO FRIDAY MORNING. THE SNOW MAY BE HEAVY AT TIMES WITH SNOWFALL RATES OF 1 TO 2 INCHES PER HOUR AT THE HEIGHT OF THE STORM. EXACT STORM TOTAL SNOWFALL AMOUNTS WILL VARY...BUT 6 INCHES OR MORE IS LIKELY BY NOON FRIDAY.

A WINTER STORM WARNING MEANS SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF SNOW... SLEET... AND ICE ARE EXPECTED OR OCCURRING. STRONG WINDS ARE ALSO POSSIBLE. THIS WILL MAKE TRAVEL VERY HAZARDOUS OR IMPOSSIBLE.

If you are flying into the midwest today, get ready for a fun filled day of delays, cancels and or diversions.  Smile

Craig

It sucks here in TUL already. My car door was frozen shut and my windshield is one solid piece of ice. Freezing rain is still falling, this all started last night.

In Okie City we have 1 1/2 of frozen sleet sitting on the ground.

Quoting OKC Area National Weather Service:
Today: Periods of snow and sleet, mainly before noon. Some thunder is also possible. High near 23. Windy, with a north northwest wind between 20 and 25 mph, with gusts as high as 36 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Total daytime snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible.

Tonight: A 50 percent chance of snow before midnight. Cloudy during the early evening, then gradual clearing, with a low around 15. Northwest wind 17 to 20 mph decreasing to between 8 and 11 mph. Winds could gust as high as 28 mph. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.

Yep, today will be fun for dispatchers, EMS and Airlines

How about the OK DOT workers trying to clear the roads, and the airport personnel trying to keep the taxiways/tarmacs/runways clear. Anyone up for some salt trucks doing 360s??? I remember seeing that some years back in Atlanta and Little Rock - Busses and salt trucks slipping sliding and spinning all over the place!!! Good luck to anyone traveling in that!!

Do not bring stranger girt into your room. The stranger girt is dangerous, it will hurt your life.

American has cancelled all flights out of it's hub at STL as of 6pm, they are forecasting 6-10 inches of snow around that area, so along with ORD AA is going to have two of its hubs affected by major delays and cancellations. Even DFW wasn't immune to this as the Dallas area was hit with sleet and freezing rain today, should be much better there tomorrow.

STL and ORD look like heaven right now compared to Tulsa.

HP already cancelled a PHX-OKC-LAS turn, and we are having more issues with our DFW flights today. I definitely would not recommend to anyone to try to fly out of ORD for the next few days.

I do not have any links to news stories about this, but NBC5 in Chicago just reported that there are no usable runways at ORD. They also reported that a plane "slid off the runway" and a cargo plane was stuck by lightning.
