Did NWA Ever Had A Latin American Route?

Hello,

Northwest Airlines has currently no operation at all in Latin America. They rely on Continental Airlines/IAH for this market.

But have they ever been operating on this market on their own please?

Thank you,

Best regards,
Alain Mengus

Don't recall whether they presently fly into the Caribbean-- but as for the South American mainland, or Central America, I guessing they never have.

Hello,
If I am correct, I believe they offer service to Mexico City from Detroit. I am not sure about St. Paul/Minneapolis.

Doesn't NW still go to Cancun? I know a couple of years ago they used to.

Didn't they go to Liberia (spelling?) briefly?

As far as South American service, Northwest has never had a scheduled flight to that continent. However, in the winter, NW operates Saturday-only service to Liberia, Costa Rica from MSP, which is their only Central American route.

NW has plenty of seasonal service to Mexico, with flights to SJD, ZIH, ACA, PVR, and CZM on a Saturday-only basis, with daily service to CUN.

Northwest flies year-round twice daily service to MEX from DTW, using the A319. They upgraded to twice daily 319s from a once daily A320 about a year ago. This is their only year round service to Mexico.

For the Caribbean, NW operates year round daily service to SJU from DTW, which upgrades to a DC-10 during the winter months, and year round Saturday/Sunday service from Memphis to SJU. NW also flies TPA-MBJ all year round.

Seasonal service to the Caribbean is extensive, albeit only on Saturdays (and in some cases Sundays). NW flies GCM-DTW, GCM-MSP, MSP-POP, MSP-Punta Cana, DTW-Punta Cana, and DTW-SXM. These are just the routes I'm able to find now, I'll check nwa.com and see if I can find a few more.

Hope this helps...

NWA Man

Liberia is also a city in Costa Rica, which is in Central America.

Here's the NW Mexico/Latin America/Caribbean service map.

Map from nwa.com

Maybe this will make NW's service in this part of the world more clear.

NWA Man, you are correct. NW operates two daily DTW-MEX roundtrips since last year in order to better use their staff in MEX. They now handle all operations for KLM flights in MEX, including ticket offices and FF program. Very good strategy.

LATIN AMERICA--yes. NW flies to MEX and seasonally to CUN, CZM, LIB, PVR, ZIH, ACA and a few others I can't think of right now.

As for South America--only via codeshare with CO. Service includes GIG, GRU, LIM, and some others.
