According to airfleets.net, AA leased a B742 in '84 for a few months. Is this true? The a/c-N749WA-Boeing 747-273C. If true, it would probably be in the VIASA colors still with red 'American' titles. Does anybody have a photo? Thanks.Credits:airfleets

Don't know about the titles, but as Flying Tiger got the aircraft after its lease to Viasa, Lufthansa and American respectively, the picture below shows it still in VA colors, partly answering your question. All the above airlines leased N749WA from World Airways.

Just because it shows American Airlines dosn't mean it flew for, or was in AA livery. It may have just been held with AMR Leasing....but there are also several photos of B747's flying for AA in the mid 1980's

AA flew 747-123's until the mid 80's when they were traded to Pan Am for the National DC-10's. In the late 80's they acquired a couple of ex TW 747-SP's to inaugerate DFW-Tokyo service.
