As I posted previously, I flew on Aladia's first fligth (MTY-CUN-MTY). The overall experience of flying with them was very good: great service, fast documentation process, nice livery, nice-looking f/a, good meals, etc. I will write details in a trip report, meanwhile I wanted to share with you more info about the airline.

I had the chance to chat with Aladia's CEO. Not only he was very happy for the success of their first flight (it was sold out, not hard to figure if they charge as little as US$500 for an all inclusive package for a couple).

He also told me they want to focus on bringing US, Canada and Europe tourists to Cancún. They want to wait for their 767 to start their flights to Europe, but might also try using their 757 with a stopover in Gander.

They are also looking to open a route from Costa Rica to Cancún as they see an increasing number of Ticos willing to spend a week in Cancún. In order to do this, they will also cater to Regios flying on a charter basis to Costa Rica. So we might see a MTY-CUN-SJO soon. They are also considering flying from MTY and MEX to La Romana in Dominican Republic.

All of this will be unveiled as soon as they get their other frames. Currently, they are doing a major overhaul to the engines. But may be we see new routes besides MTY-CUN before year ends.

Interesting, MTY-LRM was a MX charter flight during the entire year, not a surprise as the sales manager of Aladia was a MX/QA sales executive, also one of their supervisors was an MX employee also, so they have pretty good info on wich market to focus.

Good to hear that they will expand, this also will mean to MTY airport to grow as everyone is packed, including Aladia, saw their plane 3 times las week at night parked on the W apron, good livery, heard that their F/A´s are ex-JR.

Kuddos for Aladia. I predict a story of success for them; it was about time for someone to think in the huge gap Allegro left since they went belly-up.

As long as they keep away from the US tour operators and their intentions of paying peanuts per flight hour everything should be fine.

Cun757,

Currently it will be only Th and Su.

Fly727,
JR f/a are normally nice looking... so it does not surprise me these f/a at Aladia are JR brew.

Kuddos for this new airline... and with Aladia, MTY sees the largest number of domestic airlines in all Mexico: 13. CUN and GDL comes second with 11 and then MEX with only 9 (no LCC flying there yet).

This is the news I've always wanted to hear, a Mexican carrier flying from Cancun to Europe, even if its a charter. I'm far from an expert, but conventional wisdom tells me that you can fill up a 767 from several European cities, especially from Germany and the UK. I was hoping one day AM would launch a twice weekly CUN to MAN, LGW, FRA, or MUC. Now I put my hopes on Aladia.

Glad to see Aladia's service up to expectations.

I can assume that soon GDL would be linked with CUN as well? Seems like Aladia has a good thing going, wish them all the success.

Music for my ears! All those declarations above confirm the arrival of the 3 B757s needed for their operations and a sole B767 later by the end of 2007. About time! We need more charter airlines! We have a lot of markets to explore and fly! Hope Aladia do what AeroCancun, LATUR, OASIS and ALLEGRO and my loved TAESA failed doing.

Speaking of the first flight, just got a call from a friend that also took the flight, and unfortunately his bad didn´t arrive, and he still has no info about his bag, last thing he was told was that probably his bag was shipped in another plane to LHR; it´s an isolated case, but considering the type of operation, this shouldn´t happen, but it does, hope his bag returns safely, i´ll try to check if aladia is with World Tracer to help in this cases.

Well; technically Oasis and AeroCancun were the same. Oasis was the shareholder of AeroCancun and also of PrivateAir in the early '90s. Though all of the above no longer exist, they actually did a VERY good job with the charter market, but again, the greedy tour operators who charter them want a bigger slice of the pie.

I´m not sure, let me find out later and tell you.

It´s direct competitor, Magnicharters let you do it, book only the plane, maybe they will, but i´ll confirm later.

Safari messes up with AA.com as well. I was purchasing a ticket the other day, and encountered many problems. Download Camino, for activities like this, shopping etc.

Does anyone know if Aladia, plans to include GDL in its route network?

That's a good question! But perhaps, they won't! GDL is a very poor city (in terms of traffic) to sustain charter operations to CUN. Magnicharters has been on that market for years offering only 6 frequencies and few seats and I know it isn't such a good city to offer more flights, additionaly, people has the options to fly Volaris, Interjet or go via MEX. Aladia's focus on MTY, PBC and perhaps MEX it's a very good start IMHO!

Does anybody knows the schedule for PBC?

How is it that PBC can sustain the flights and GDL can't? Is it that GDL has a bigger population, but PBC and MTY has a population with more disposable income to fly?

Easy!! PBC isn't linked with almost anything as GDL is! More over, you'll be surprised to read this... PBC's pop is near to 5.2M inhabitants, while GDL has something near to 8M. PBC is an important underserved market!!

Makes sense now. Thanks/

I guess too, that PBC doesn't get much service due to the fact that it is not terribly far from Mexico City.

It is, that´s why it was only served by VW and lately with C4 -ALMA-

Ghost77,
Seems like a little bit of exaggeration here.
According to INEGI data for 2005, Puebla Metro Area had 2.1MM (and that includes some municipalities in Tlaxcala). GDL Metro Area is slight over 4MM -not even all Jalisco state has more than 6MM people-
However, I do agree, that PBC was a very underserved metro area which deserves mucho more air services.

My dear Peter!! Oops sorry I didn't specify... I was refering to the whole pop. in the state!!

Puebla:

http://www.inegi.gob.mx/inegi/conten...speciales/2006/Mayo/comunica24.pdf

habitantes.

Jalisco:

http://www.inegi.gob.mx/inegi/conten...speciales/2006/Mayo/comunica17.pdf

• De acuerdo con los resultados definitivos del II Conteo
de Población y Vivienda 2005, al 17 de octubre pasado
residían en Jalisco un total de 6 752 113 personas, de
las cuales 51.4% son mujeres y 48.6 % son hombres.

However PBC has a big potential for growth! ALADIA in fact today started PBC-CUN!

I have a feeling the first schedule flights between Cancun and somewhere in Europe will be launch in 2007. The Mexican Government seems to want AM or VS on the CUN-UK route.

I agree in that, but the problem is, that unfortunately we are already saturated, airports operating at their full capacity and they can´t handle it anymore, only with patches -T2, T3, C Terminal, Etc- and the infraestructure not getting any enhances, MEX being closed for hours because of the fog, and the ILS inop...., all that kind of issues have to be solved first.
