Delta started flight 16 from ATL to JFK then on to India a month or so ago.

I know there was some conversation on here as to if there were going to be some problems flying over Iraq,Iran other countries. Just curious if they have had any problems and also how this flight is actually doing.

I hope it is doing very well.

Ashley

DL has been flying over the Middle East for years enroute to India. Normal routes to India take you over Iran whether going from western Europe or the US. Remember that NW made an emergecy landing in Teheran not too long ago.

DL's normal routes for flight 16 take it over western Europe and Iran and southern Pakistan going to India. Coming back, routes go north out of India over the "-stans", up over Russia, and over Scandanavia. DL has been crossing the Atlantic above the Arctic circle.

Their enroute times have lengthened as winter winds have strengthened. The flight is now enroute for as long as 16 1/2 hrs - that's in the air, not block to block. The 777 and DL are handling the longest flight (DL 17) by a US carrier based on time very well.

I've noticed that they have re-jigged the DL 17 flight times after a month of operations, no doubt applying some lessons learnt. The ground time in BOM is now almost 3 hours (2 hours 55 to be exact) compared to 2 hours before. DL16 arrives BOM 10:10pm and DL 17 now doesn't leave until 1:05 am (used to depart at 12:10am); this should help provide additional cushion in case DL16 arrives late from ATL and JFK.

Yes they did. The flight was consistently late, and that can be a big problem downstream with a very limited (8) 777 fleet for DL.

...not to mention the fact that DL 17 JFK-ATL would potentially show up on the DOT's on-time performance "list of shame" for November - something DL doesn't need given the DCI on-time issues at JFK...

It was a couple years back. Everything went smoothly. I don't know if would go as smooth if it were to happen today.

International flights don't count towards DOT statistics, eventhough the JFK-ATL does. Sometimes you have to retime flights to get a better flow going.

Well I want to thank everyone that has responded. I usually don't get a lot of responses when I start a thread for some reason.
