Very interesting! "JetBlue (NASDAQ: JBLU) chief executive David Neeleman, in a speech to investors, said his airline would be interested in buying flight slots at National and New York's LaGuardia Airport."

Yes, and Dougie will try to pull the wool over by pointing to this and WN's interest in entering LGA/DCA, etc., as examples of how LCC competition is alive and well and that the "New Delta" will be faced with low fare competition, etc. However, ask B6 whether they'd be interested in AVL, or GNV, or LYH perhaps....

So the merger should be killed because of a handful of towns that will now have a monopoly. Give me a break......
Again, I'm not saying I think the merger of US and DL is a good idea. It has a whole host of problems. But the overlap problem and the concerns about monopolies in a handful of small towns is overblown.

I believe JetBlue was waiting for US to flop before the AmWest merger saved their existance. B6 was waiting to claim the LGA slots for the E190 cities. For example PIT/CMH/CLT/RDU/ETC to LGA. More of a demand for LGA than JFK.

it's more than a couple... and try telling that to the people that are served by those markets... It may not be enough to derail the merger, but it is a concern... the potentially negative effect on local economies should be considered...

Just my $0.02
Ding! we have a winner... well at least IMO that's what I thought B6 was waiting for as well. So for now they'll stick with maintaining JFK and building their other focus cities. My guess is since US didn't fail they'll try to build up IAD since they can't gain a presence at DCA. Maybe MCO or FLL will be grown as well but all in good time.
As always the industry is forever changing, it's a continuous process for airlines to adapt to the environment and changes. It's really a question to see who can adapt the best.

Agreed. Take a city like MGM. DL flies 7x daily to ATL. US flies 3x daily. Doubtful that a combined entity will offer 10 flights daily, to say nothing of the fact that you lose the competition of having two airlines in the market. And previosu posters are right. B6, WN, FL, et.al. are NOT rushing to jump into those markets.
