The Windows On The CRJ's

Besides a small child, who the heck can see out the CRJ window? I will be on two 200's this weekend for USAirways out of CVG and I can't stand it. Are all CRJ's that way. (It seems to be that way but I cannot confirm that.) The Embraer jets are so much nicer for regional flights and I like them way better. Opinions???

CR7s and 9s have a lower floor that mitigates the position of the windows. Remember that the CRJ-100 is a minimally-modified Challenger, so the windows are in more of a biz jet-friendly position. In contrast, the ERJ is a stretched 120, so the fuselage was designed for a commercial aircraft.

The reason I personally cannot see out the windows on a CRJ is because the windows are too low. It seems that if the floor were lower than usual, the windows would be too high, not too low.

I was wondering about this very thing on a recent United Express flight from IAD-LGA.

The windows on the -7/900 are raise 5 inches or so on the fuselage as well. This, combined with the lowered floor, brings the windows to a more "normal" position.

This is why I try to avoid all CRJs if I can. I'd much rather fly on a EMB 120 or Saab 340. It may take a bit longer but it is much better for me.

The -700s windows are a bit better but they still suck compared to a regular mainline flight. Sometimes (alot of times)now you are forced to take RJs because they have stopped so many mainline flights. Like UA in BNA. I think it is all RJs

I've flown today in a CRJ-200 from MAD to PNA and I was wondering the same question...didn't now if the windows were too low or my neck had grown!! Anyway, it has been a very pleasant and smooth ride; i personally love the shapes of that plane.

I'd rather fly a CRJ-700 than a 737. At least I don't have to stretch my neck to see out the window on the ground. :P

The CRJ200 is a converted Challenger fuselage, so when the designers needed to increase the floor area, they just raised the floor. And thus the windows became lower in relation to seat height, though they stayed at the same point on the fuselage.

I would feel like a weirdo looking out the window from an isle seat for an extended period of time even though it might be better on my neck. My point is who is responsible for such a horrid configuration? My sense of the matter is most people who enjoy flying and the aspects around it think the CRJ is less than ideal, whatever config of commercial CRJ that we slouches fly on.

The CRJ-200 may be less than ideal, but the travelling public also has their expectations set way too high for the prices they want to pay, and the service their city can yield.

Unfortunately, designers can't really play with "one size fits all." Hopefully, the 787 will at least remedy this to a degree.

It's T - Under 12 hours to go for my journey and I cannot believe that I am one of less than 13 persons who think that the CRJ is crap for window viewing! There are HOW many engineers out there and the best they could come up on that plane was windows at my crotch!

ERJs are fantastic, actually. Especially in the A seat, where you get both window and aisle. The windows are of good size, and are at a reasonable height, and the seats are fairly comfortable (depending on the airline).

I would guess you are not talking about the CR7 or CR9 because they are more efficient than the larger E-jets because they weigh less. You are probably right when talking about the CR2 and CR1 though.
