I heard a rumour that SAA will stop it's service to ZRH. They will use this aircraft for a new service to MUC. At the beginning 3 times and in the future daily.

Can somebody confirm this rumour.

It would be very sad that an airline would disapear from ZRH after they served this destination for such a long time.

On the other hand, might it good good news for LX? Gosh, I remember flying ZRH-JNB in 1991 on an SR 747-300 (N221GE in those days...).

As LX and SA are both *A SA could probably codeshare on the LX flight.

With the new A340s arriving do you think LX will take this flight to daily?

It will be a pity if SA do go.

Having said that SA are currently advertising their new C class seat (complete with slumbering rhino) in the ZRH airside centre, that doesn't strike me as the actions of an airline about to withdraw from the route.

Edited because I can't type.

In SA´s recent press release announcing MUC they stated it will be the 5th European destination. In this count ZRH is still included.

In 2007 SA will even use a B744 on certain days to ZRH.

Speaking to a SA representative at the C-class-demo at ZRH it sounded more that they will further strengthen their presence at ZRH. But who knows...

So far they are operating the A342 and they are equiped with the old Lufthansa Business Class seats. Probably they will upgrade the aircraft or the cabin

All A342 have already been reconfigured with the new C-Class seats.
SAA´s press release: http://tinyurl.com/tyc68

There are new 24 C-seats (down from 42) and an increase of Y-seats (to approx. 230). Unfortunately the seat plan on SAA´s website has not yet been updated.

Starting the Northern Winter timetable, SAA will fly 747-400 to Zurich every Saturday.

Effective 10JUL07, ALL 3 weekly SAA JNB-ZRH will be operated by 747-400

All three weekly? So they are downgrading to a three weekly service? As I'm quite sure they've flown more than three weekly to date.

The downgrade has already happened a while ago. SAA is only flying thrice weekly to ZRH on days 2/4/6 from JNB and back on days 3/5/7. Not so long ago, SAA flew daily into ZRH but the flight was linked to CDG. Ever since the two destinations have been served seperately CDG has won frequencies - now daily with A342 - while ZRH's regimen has gone down.

Ah, thanks for the clarification. I haven't been at the airport for ages other than for travelling, so i'm not really uptodate.

Using 744 on a 342 route would actually be an upgrade  Wink

Thanks, yeah on the website there are really no updates yet and I only checked there. But that's good to know that they offer the premium product now on all flights.

Good news to hear that SA will come to ZRH with a B744.
So, nobody can confirm this rumour. Hopefully it's only a rumour and we will see SAA at ZRH for ever.
