After heavy rumours for month, the German Newspaper "Handeslblatt" (which is a quite reliable source in contrast to yellowpress like "Bild" etc.) just reported that the treaty will be signed tomorrow at Istanbul.
Let's see who's next! (my guess: Air India)

I hope so , *Alliance needs an Airline in India and Russia.

Keep on going so.

Does anyone know when will they actually join, late 2007 or later?
I just need to know when to switch to United Mileage Plus.

An educated guess would be Q4 2007 at the earliest. Probably not later than Q2 2008, but one never knows. Star Alliance will have drawn up a checklist of about 30 or so achievements that TY must meet before being granted full membership. These will include integration issues as well as service standards.

What rumors for months? THY announced its plans to join Star way back in August.

Unfortunately I don't see any airlines in Russia who deserve to join *A soon... Except of Aeroflot, for sure, but they are already in SkyTeam.

That is quite unlikely. They doing well both between SIN-DXB and DXB-IST.

An increase to daily service would still be nice, even with the stop at DXB.

Air China will be a full member in 2007

AiRUnion or S7 Airlines are the two being targeted, especially the former will enter strategic cooperation deal with Austrian from Spring 2007.

I suppose they're learning from past experience and going into greater detail in order to avoid problems they've had with past airlines joining.

Merhaba!

I expect Turkish to contribute a lot to * because of their performance, home market, geographical location, and route network. In their "bridge" position between Europe and Asia they have a great potential to compete with the middle east giants.

Cheers

I doubt Air China would actually get to join Star with their new mutual shareholding agreement with Cathay Pacific
