Gary Toomey was spotted in the GF First class lounge in Bahrain last week. Apparently he was called in for an interview. Can anyone confirm.
Came across the following from 'The Sydney Morning Herald'
Off to Gulf?
Quote: Former Air New Zealand boss Gary Toomey has been pretty quiet of late since Ansett collapsed on his watch. There's a few cheeky rumours however that Two of Me is in the running for head of Gulf Air.
Gulf's got a thing for Aussies. Its previous boss was former Ansett executive James Hogan, who recently took the helm of the Abu Dhabi based Etihad.

Good for him! Yes the Ansett collapse happened on his watch, but Ansett was a dog long before NZ or Gary Toomey got involved with it. Its collapse was inevitable. Hopefully he gets the job as he received a hard time in Australia but also New Zealand after the collapse.

Let's hope his first job is to do something about the fleet. I usually fly QR but as I was in BAH I flew on GF003 BAH/LHR on an A330 last thursday, looking pretty sad inside..........

Toomey was terrific at Air NZ: the Ansett debacle wasn't his fault.
In fact, his idea of one Star carrier covering Australia (Ansett as Australian Star) and the Pacific (Ansett International and Air NZ as Pacific Star) would have been a terrific model, with services from across Australia and Auckland into LAX and SFO.
It wasn't his fault that Ansett had that cost base and fleet, that Air NZ's board viewed the above model as a threat to AKL-LAX services or that Air NZ's senior management alienated their business clients in Australia.
