QR placed an order for (60) A350's and (20) 777's back in June 2005.

Question is:

Did QR ever firm their order of (60) A350's and if so then when and if not why?

I know this May they signed the deal on the 777's.
(14) 773ER's
(06) 772LR's

Are they not going with the A350 any longer or what or are they looking elsewhere? Seems like a long time to sign a deal.

Could it be due to the A350 industrial launch (which has happened) and the delays/changes in the program?

They signed a MoI with Airbus for the A350 and said they'd sign for up to 60 when the plane met their requirements. I'd bet that the plane now does meet those requirements but whther they're happy with waiting until 2013 we'll have to see - expect to see it firmed pretty quickly if ithey're happy.

This has set me thinking, I wonder when we'll see the first signed XWB order?

Does this have to do with the A380 compensation?

No, I was joking, as Airbus always books orders at the very end of the year

Did QR ever formally sign a purchase agreement for the second set of 777s that they said they would purchase after they firmed the first 20??

Not a joke LY, I expect Airbus and QR to announce the 60 firm in the next two weeks, no reason to hold off now and Don Juan will be anxious to level the gap in order value for the year. Soon we'll be calling John "Leahy of Arabia" for all the time he spends down there.
