Sad news indeed. I thought Air Tanzania had only 737s and F28s--have they acquired Cessnas recently, or could the flight have been operated by another company?

You are correct - at least when i was there not to long ago...
That reg has a letter missing, but i would say it is probably Tanzanair, as their regs fall in this sequence - Cessna's are 310 TZC & F406's TZC & TZE - as a 310 cant carry 6 (legally) i would say it was one of the Caravan II's. I believe 402's TZB & TZZ are no longer operated and F406 TZD was already written off at Morogoro. The Tanzanair website is not working at the moment.
