I'm leaving for a trip later this week to go down to Chile for Christmas and into the New Year to visit a friend. This is my first time going down there and I'm looking forward to it... but had a few questions about the flights. (JFK-MIA-SCL/SCL-MIA-JFK)

How is the service on AA from MIA-SCL in econ? Do all of the AA 763s have the new 777 style interior as of yet?

On my way back just after New Years i'm flying on LAN from SCL-MIA. How does LAN compare to AA on this route? Anyone care to share their experience? I booked the flights this way to get to experience LAN at least once on the trip.

Lastly, will the AAdvantage miles for the LAN portion of the trip post as fast as the AA segments or do they take a while?

Thanks!!!

TUNisia

No, and not all will. AA has 763s that were delivered more recently, as recently as 2004. These 763s, since they were ordered in the late 1990s, were ordered with the 772-style interior. AA does not plan on converting all 763s to the newer interior, especially since they share the same cabin layout anyway.

Fly LAN. Much better product. American's 767's are, apart from the 9 ordered in early 2001 and delivered through 2004 are getting old. The service is lousy. Grumpy, old flight attendants. Bad food.

Ehh! I was hoping they would as it makes the cabin seem so much fresher and alive. It's sad they no longer use the 777 on the route  Sad

Lan, Lan, Lan Baby Lan, AA's 767 are old fart 767, been around since the first 763ER were selivered in 1988. Lan's are much newer and they have a new flat seat Business Class.

I flew LAN in October, EZE-MIA and was very pleased with the service, food and comfort. I'm 6ft4in (195cm) and could rest comfortably on the night flight. The F/As were pleasant and very professional. I would definitely book them in the future. Enjoy your trip!

I flew LAN to SCL back in June from LAX. Let me tell you the overall product is better than their partner AA.

Very friendly F/A's, good condition 767, really good food, with free alcohol. No PTV on this flight, but if you are flying back to MIA on them, there is a good chance you will fly one of their updates 767 with ptvs.

You'll see that LAN is a superior product.

I have flown on both airlines to South America and my choice is AA only when the B777 is flying the route. Otherwise I will fly LAN. My last flight with LAN was SCL-MEX on a B767 without PTV's in coach (4 months ago) and the flight was quite standard and could be compared to any AA B767 flight but if you get the PTV's it is a different story. My last flight on a AA B767 was LAX-MIA (aircraft continued to EZE) much better than the B757 for the same route, but not the best product for South America...

The miles for my LA flights always take 5 to 7 days to post into my AAdvantage account.

By the way, if you are an American citizen, don't forget your US$100 to pay for your immigration card.

I am visiting relatives on my mother's side in SCL as well leaving on sat 23rd. DCA-MIA-SCL AA metal both ways. True, LA product is superior. LA pissed me off a while back so I try to avoid them as much as possible.

Hi there, I have never flown LAN (actually flying Lan Peru in April to go to LIM), but I have heard great things about them... I have many Chileans friends and from other South American countries, and LAN is the best right now.

Hope this helps.

I think currently all LA non stop SCL-MIA are the ones with the new interiors, wider PTVs and better seats.

On my way back just after New Years i'm flying on LAN from SCL-MIA. How does LAN compare to AA on this route?

I've flown LA and AA to MIA, and LA to JFK via LIM. Most chances will tell you'll get a "regular non ptv" 763 to JKF, but it's much more confortable than stopping in MIA for going to NY, so if you still have the chance, I would change your return flight.

So my advice is, all LAN: MIA-SCL-LIM-JFK.

As posted, SCL-MIA has been almost fully upgraded. I hope to fly to MIA for new year, but no sale yet!

Beyond the discussion of the flights (nothing I can add there), if you are staying in Santiago, be sure to check out the clubs in "El Bosque" district..always used to be some very nice looking ladies to buy a drink for.

Also, check out some of the fine Chilean wineries outside Santiago..Some great wines there..particularly a variety called "Carmenere"...very nice.

Have a great trip!

One questions...is SCL all jetways or do they still haul passengers from the aircraft to the terminal in those blue buses?. If so how many Jetways do they have?. Is it there heavy traffic there when they are all taken?. Thanks for the information.

All jetways, equiped with 17 of them. Of course, traveling about 24 times a years in domestic, only 2 times I took a bus.

Some of the jetways are shared by both I and D terminal, but I've never seen any international flight using buses.

Enjou SCL, a lot of heavy work over there though...
