Came across this article. Apart from mentioning new routes to Montreal and Budapest, RJ's CEO says he's looking to add the A319 from 2008 and will also look into replacing the A340s and A310s.

Quoting Manni (Thread starter):
Budapest

Most probably due to them joining oneworld, alongside Malev who have a hub at BUD.

I can see them replacing the 310's, but the 340's? Aren't those fairly young?

If I'm not mistaken the 340's are the short 200 series aircraft which are at a bit costly to operate in this era of expensive fuel

They are indeed fairly young in RJ fleet. The first two arrived in July and August 2002, and the following two came in May and July 2003. But, in the A330/340 chain they are frames 038 / 042 / 014 / 022, and were delivered to their first customer 2/1994; 3/1994; 6/1993 & 6/1993 respectively.

Cheers.

Didn't know that, who was their first customer? Thought RJ acquired them new, at least that's how they advertised them as. I flew them JFK-AMM back in Summer of 02 right after they were acquired, and they were in very good, new condition.

Thanks for the info.

Just returned from meeting with our handling agent and one of the topic was their discussion with RJ about opening PRG. Can E-190 make AMM-PRG without payload restrictions?

just fly - it is nice

The AMM-YUL rumor has been floating around for a while, but its unclear whether it will happen, and when. As for the A340's, i remember reading an article a while ago saying that RJ is thinking of replacing their A340's with 787's. Cant find the article now, but i will post when i find it. I'm not sure where RJ will send their new 195's, if anyone has any idea id like to know. thanks.

RJ to Acquire Boeing 787 for Long Distance Flights

Amman, Dec. 20 (Petra)—The Royal Jordanian (RJ) announced it had chosen Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircrafts for long distance flights as part of its strategic plan to replace the Airbus 340 as of 2010.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the RJ Samir Majali said negotiations are currently underway with Boeing and other international companies to acquire 4-5 Boeing 787 aircrafts at this stage. “The 787-8 Dreamliner will carry 250 passengers on routes of 8,000 to 8,500 nautical miles (16.500 kilometers), he added.

The 787 will provide airlines with unmatched fuel efficiency, resulting in exceptional environmental performance. The airplane will use 20 percent less fuel for comparable missions than today's similarly sized airplane. It will also travel at speeds similar to today's fastest wide bodies, Mach 0.85. Airlines will enjoy more cargo revenue capacity.

Passengers will also see improvements with the new airplane, from an interior environment with higher humidity to increased comfort and convenience.
