I believe the author of the article is a BW director. He clears up the situation about the LHR slots.

The end of an era is here.

LI and 8B are going to merge. The start up date for the new carrier is Feb of 07 and the formal merger should be completed within a couple months of the start up date.

Schocking Revelations in this morning's Sunday Trini newspapers regarding
BWIA and Caribbean Airlines!

First, BWIA's Jamaican area manager has been granted a court injunction
requiring BWIA to preserve its assets because of a laundry list of unpaid
wages over the past 7 years. This is not the first I have heard of this,
I well know of others in the same position and apparently others will be
given the opportunity to hop on board this "claim."

Second, Trini's Guardian reports may of the new Caribbean Airlines
employees are already disgruntled, apparently wages and working
conditions are actually far worse than they were previously. This
does not bode well for Caribbean, to be starting up with a very unhappy
work force.

Third, apparently Davies is off golfing in Asia! At this time ?!!!! The time
of an incredibly important transition, and he is off golfing in Asia ?
Is he just another greedy corporate CEO or what ?

Fourth, apparently Caribbean's plan to success is reported to be offering
"low airfares." Why ? BWIA/Caribbean does not operate in a LCC environment with airlines like Southwest and Jet Blue on its routes ? It operates in
an environment with the old boys, the old legacy airlines, e.g. American
and Air Canada. Why give away your product when you don't have to ?
Yields will be lower than with BWEE so that surely will neutralize any
cost savings under the new "strucuture".

Am I missing something here, but is Caribbean already going down in
flames before its even started ? On the eve of the new companies'
debut, we wll wanted to wish well but surely things are not looking
good!

An end of an era. BWEE You will be sorely missed. Reluctantly I welcome Caribbean Airlines. It will take a little while for me to warm up to them.

ps: Based on JMBWEEBOY's post and the articles there looks like there will be some fall out on this whole mess. BW772 Thanks for the picture of Concorde.

LOL I didn't even know this was around since Dec.18th!  wink

I look forward to seeing Caribbean Airlines in SDQ, HAV or even NAS one day!

Well one of the smaller Bahamian carriers: SkyBahamas will soon anounce a GGT-FLL Saab 340B service.

other news
-SkyBahamas: NAS-CAP 4 weekly Saab 340Bs
-Pineapple Air: NAS-CAP 4 weekly using a mix of Beech 1900s and 99s

Bahamas has an estimated 40-75 thousand Haitians and Haitian-Bahamians in a country of a little over 300 thousand people.

Even thought you probably have to be Bahamian to know these airlines, I thought it was worth mentioning.

Happy New Years!  santahat

I see the new Caribbean Airlines POS-JFK-POS schedule calls for the POS-JFK flight to arrive at JFK at 4:10 PM. The JFK-POS flight does not depart until 12:15AM. Isn't that a wate of a/c utlilization having the aircraft on the ground at JFK for almost 8 hours?

Plus is there a strong market for a midnight departure?

It would have been nice if they had a water cannon salute. Then again, after what happened with a United 777, maybe they were reluctant. Who knows.

Out of interest I am wondering, does anyone have statistical information on how all airlines flying to the Caribbean are performing on the routes they fly such as load factors and what is expected in the coming years? I would like to know this information for both foreign airlines flying to the Caribbean such as AA, DL, CO, US, AC etc as well as Caribbean airlines such as JM, BW, 8B/LI etc.

Does anyone have this management information or know where I can obtain this. I visited the IATA website once and they release extensive market analysis each year but this costs about 600 US Dollars to obtain so that is too expensive for me, even though I take it that the analysis they do is very detailed and broad which is interesting.

Well guys whats going on. The silence is deadly now. I guess everyone is still in shock that BWEE is gone. WHo knows it could be reserected and this time the folks running it will say I told you so and make a killing. Anyway there is going to be some fall out on this cause share holders were prevented from investing in the carrier for over one year, myself included. And there were folks who wanted to invest to move the company forward.

A388 check this link out for some of the information you are looking for.

Hey guys have had some family fly out to LHR on Caribbean Airlines and they said that there was not a huge difference- new faces etc. and the flight was somewhat on time to their suprise. They left the gate about 20 minutes late but they boarded right on time. There were no pushback trucks avaiable. anyways- 3 days into operations and so far no real problems. Bookings haven't been too bad, but they are not fantastic either.

BWIA 772,

Very nice video. I like the music as well, very fitting music for such a video! Did you add the song to the video? I have never heard an airline play music during take-off.....

Which airline was the A310 on your video? It is the first aircraft you pass after arrival in BGI. At first I thaught it was Air Plus Comet from Spain but I don't think it's that airline as the tail logo had a white circle and Air Plus Comet doesn't have that on their tails as far as I know.....?

EDIT: I now see your photos too, very nice!!! Big grin

A388 it was some airline from Jordan most likely a charter. That day was the first time that I saw 9Y TAB in person since being repainted. I also realised that it was ironic as with my last L1011 flight on BW in Dec of 2002 on arrival at BGI I saw 9Y TJN for the first time in person.

As for the music that happened by accident. I was playing that in my media player when I went on youtube to look at the video to see that it played ok. I realise that it was quite fitting so I edited the copy on my computer took down the video and replaced it with this one which had in the music. Hence the comment about the time on my hands. I have one other video to put on which is the landing at POS from my BGI POS run but there is some music that I want to add before I put that one.

The new Caribbean Airlines website is nice there is too much white for me but I said the samething about BWIA green. I heard the new call sign is BWA Caribbean Airlines so the only thing left from BW really are the flight numbers' prefix of BW.

I also saw in the newsday that Sunjet House Trinidad has been repainted. I do not know about BGI as I really do not go into town that often unless necessary.

Well 2007 seems to be the year of change in Caribbean aviation. I hope that with in the couple of months we will be here talking about the new routes of Caribbean Airlines. In a couple of weeks we should know exactly what is taking place at LI/8B.

Already we have seen that because of the strength of the LI brand that its name will be retained. The guys on calpa seem to like the name of LIAT Star of the Caribbean IMHO I think it is a cheesy name and I told a LI director that which led to a nice debate that still has to be finished.

In 6 days time the new BW will complete its pull out of BGI and JM will launch its daily service to JFK. While I am happy for JM they are a good number of bajans that would be going to AA.

Oh it seems as if 9Y JIL will be going to Air Comet.

92 A388 : I thaught Caribbean Star was to buy LIAT hence that LIAT would be swallowed up in Caribbean Star. So does LIAT take over Caribbean Star now as a majo
93 Post contains links BWIA 772 : That was never the case. It was always a merger. The reason why the LI name is being kept is due to strength of the LI brand. LI held in excess of 50
94 Post contains links Caribbean484 : BWIA772 I have to correct you. Stanford is not going to have shares in the new airline rather, he is loaning the airline some US$35m. Yep. True. Star

101 PanAmOldDC8 : I just hope the politicians keep their noses out of the new airline and let the people who know how to run it do so. Especially "Uncle Owen"
102 BWIA 772 : As Star is being folded into LI it is most likely management will remain LI. As for right now the current planning horizon is to complete this merger

106 BWIA 772 : 484 you are basing your information on media reports which do not contain everything. Stanford will have a share in the airline. Regards

108 Post contains images WestIndian425 : It's alright. I forgive you. LOL!! Sorry I've been M.I.A. guys. On a light note, I did hear the Caribbean Airlines callsign over JFK tower frequency.
109 Beeweel15 : Most of those pax on Caribbean were going to Georgetown Guyana while the others, Travelspan and Constelation, were doing their thing to POS.
110 Beeweel15 : From the several articles on this matter it seems that he wants out but loaning $35 million I am certain he will have shares in the company I believe
111 Caribbean484 : BWIA772, respectfully, so are you. We just have to wait and see as to what is really going down. Because Stanford should really get out of aviation h
112 Captaink : Just here idle and bored, but thinking. With one airline, in region, which seems to be the goal, what is going to happen to customer service this time
113 Beeweel15 : If you was in NYC I could have taken you out on the ramp for a tour and you would not be as board as you are. I hope there will be at least two that
114 BWIA 772 : As it relates to LI that has not been the case since the last set of merger talks between BW and LI. If you wanted a detail history of how those talk

122 OA260 : Are BW axing all the EU routes??? They still havnt taken the London flight out of the Galileo computer system yet!!!
123 Caribbean484 : They are. After March 28th 2007, all UK routes will be axed and code shared by BA.
