Today, UAL retired its first 747-238. (actually yesterday ~ depending on your time zone 27 OCT)
3 more will be retired on 31 OCT.

Leased, not bought. And I believe it was from AA; that is where the term "lemon-sisters" was derived.
Also, UAL is terminating their lease early - despite the penalties they must pay.
