Came in last night, any ideas of why its here?

He's parked at west cargo, just north of where DHL parks. Looks like you can get a good shot from between the two cargo buildings.

I saw something that looked like a C-130 circle over my parents' house yesterday, lining up with Rwy 22. The tail wasn't quite right, though. Was that it?

Well, the Flightaware data clearly says it's an AN-12. For those of you who don't know how it looks:

Reg is UK-12002. SRX Avia Leasing. Neat to see Russian planes here.

The aircraft spent the weekend parked in Toronto YYZ. It had made a trip to YYZ on Dec 1st. I was advised at that time that the aircraft was based in Miami. The crews spend 3 months at a time working with the aircraft before returning home to Uzbekistan . This particular aircraft still has the rear gun turret visible, minus the guns of course.

I'll try this afternoon when I get out of work. I have a pentax optio S50, that might have a small enough lens on it to get the thing (hopefully).

This and 3 or 4 other An-12's are based at OPF. I wish they would rotate the aircraft every 3 months as well as the crew, I'd be flying down to FL regularly to see these!

Those things are getting common at YYZ  Smile As well as UK-12002 last Sunday, I saw LZ-VEA on Dec. 10 and LZ-VEE back in October. Those two belong to Vega Airlines of Bulgaria.

Well, so much for that idea. I was able to go onto the ramp and take a few pics, but they turned out blurry for some reason. Here's a couple of them:

Tail # UK-12002

Big version: Width: 2560 Height: 1920 File size: 1593kb
Big version: Width: 2560 Height: 1920 File size: 1508kb
Big version: Width: 2560 Height: 1920 File size: 1521kb
Big version: Width: 2560 Height: 1920 File size: 1688kb

I'm guessing that the hole behind the left main is the apu exhaust?

Thanks Aaron for getting the pics! Always good to get unusual visitors to ROC recorded.

I remember in the early 70's when a Uganda Airlines 707 freighter came to Rochester, I think it was getting relief supplies. The Times-Union ran some photos of it.

That is correct. The engines on the AN 12 are very smokey as evidenced by the soot on the side of the fuselage

I should've uploaded the pic lastnight but didn't think about. I took a semi good pic of the tail turret. I'll try to post that tonight after work.

The other neat thing I noticed was that the props are painted different colors. Is that just a special anti ice coating on them or is that actually paint?

When the aircraft was circling over our house on approach, it was leaving very visible smoke trails behind the engines.

Thanks Scott for the AM picture!
