Why is the CRJ-900 always compared with the Embraer 190 if the CRJ-900 is closer in capacity to the E175 than it is to the E190? The Embraer 190 is a 100-seater, the CRJ-900 is significantly smaller. It seems that a possible reason is due to the similar model numbers, but I cannot confirm that. Does anyone know the real reason?

The CR9 in its original design is a 90 seat jet which is why it is loosely compared to the E190. Due to many scope clauses within pilot contracts, the CR9 is frequently equipped in a 2 class 70-76 seat configuration which places the aircraft on a similar playing field with the E170/175.

certified capacity of the 190 is 106, of the CRJ-900 is 90 seats, and for the 175 is 86 seats.

Didn't Embraer recently revise the max seating numbers for the E-jet?

E170: up 2 to 78
E175: up 2 to 88
E190: up 6 to 114
E195: up 4 to 122

Actually, the CRJ900 original design was for 86-seats that came with a rear door and rear galley. To fit 90-pax they had to plug the door, remove the galley and push back the rear cabin wall (thus reducing luggage hold by almost 80 cu. ft.) Meanwhile, the E-175 has 2 rear doors.

I know that Republic Airways' E75s will have 86 seats. How many do their E-170s have, 75, 76 roughly?
