Any Chance Of Air Canada Jazz Expanding The Fleet?

Hello all

I was wondering if Air Canada Jazz will expand their CRJ705 from 15 to further 15 more which will be total of 30? Any ideas. Your comments are appreciate.

I would hope so. I guess it depends on how many markets are availible for AC JAzz to use it on. You don't want to fly an empty plane. They might be able to use more to expand existing markets. Can someone who works for AC tell us whats in stock?

IIRC, pilot scope clauses prevent more CRJ705s unless AC mainline buy an equal number of E175s...

Are Jazz pilots paid a pittance compared to mainline pilots? If so, don't they think that is bloody unfair as they too fly 4-hour nonstops and have the same workload?

Yes, 15 x CRJ705 with 75 seats and 15 x E175 with 73 seats.

I would like to see Jazz increase their turbo prop fleet, some of their Dash 8-100's are getting very old. Is there any consideration in replacing those aircraft? I think a fleet rejuvenation would do them well and add some Dash 8-400's for future growth.

How long will the CRJ100/200 stay in the Jazz fleet? Are they able to charge fares high enough to cover all costs because they are flying routes where there is little or no competition? What is their expected successor, Q300/400 or CRJ700/705 or a combination of both?

How viable is the Jazz division in the long run? Is Jazz a great asset for AC or a "necessary burden"?

Talking to some pilots at jazz i have been told that they are looking at the q400's. But they are not expecting anything in the near future. The dash 8's as old as they are are in good condition and can stick around for many more years. Now something to look for is 2009, when the contract for ground handling expires. Some think this is a big deal, and others feel the company is trying to scare all us employees and its not that big of deal. Maybe after 2009 we will see some fleet renewal/expansion?

It's likely there will be an order for 45 DH8 Q300 and it's anyone's guess about an additional order for 15 CRJ 705 aircraft(scope issues),or possibly 15 Q400 aircraft. A number of CRJ 100 aircraft are rumoured to soon leave the fleet.

CRJs will probably be around for a while yet, as they are not that old and are often used on routes such as YVR/YXY.

On that route for Jazz to compete with Air North's cheaper fares and superior service (I'm not trying to advertise or anything, but Air North is miles ahead of Jazz as far as service goes, atleast on all the flights I've been on), they need to offer multiple flights per day for connections (Air North runs a single 732, goes down around 8 in the morning turns around and comes back).
However, with multiple flights a day in winter there just isn't quite enough demand to fill the CRA and with the flight being 2+ hours by jet it's probably just a little too long for the DH3. Although, I would personally take a Dash 8 over a CRJ100/200 on any flight.

However if they did go, I would assume a mix of CRJ705s and Dash 8s would replace them.

Air Canada's subsidary Air BC and Air Nova both used the BAE 146. When those airlines were rolled into Air Canada Jazz, along with Air Ontario, the 146's were brought along. Sadly they were retired last year and replaced in the Jazz fleet with the CRJ 100/200 and 705's

And they are greatly missed! I would like to see some CRJ 700s replacing the 100s, maybe in a 10 J 45 Y config.
The DHC-8s need replacing, everyone knows it. However the puppet masters at AC will have the final say.

Well, they might be 10 Q400 soon available... cough porter cough Big grin

There have been all sort of rumors. Here are a few:
-Jazz would exchange some CRJ-100 for some Q400 from Bombardier
-Jazz could send some Q100 to Georgian (who currently operates B1900 for AC) since they have an even lower cost.
-Jazz would drop the Q series and go all jet at one point (im quoting an Jazz Q100/300 captain)
-Jazz would only order a mix of Q300/Q400 since the Q100 and Q300 both require 1 FA
-Jazz wants to get rid of the CRJ-100

Originally, Jazz ordered 30 CRJ-705 but brought the number down to 15. Probably because the Air Canada pilots complained.

^ I wouldn't call anything that AC has now "Q" series. They have Dash8-100s and Dash8-300s... a short form might be L100 and L300 where "L" stands for "loud".
