Hey Guys!
Tomorrow morning I'm going to Vail to spend some quality days, and on my birthday, I requested to go spotting to EGE as there are some magnificent take-off performances and some very nice approaches.
So, if any of you guys know about any cool spotting places, I'd really appreciate it. Also, any further info would come handy.
Thanks in advance!
Enrique.

Every United and United Express flight was cancelled for three days. As far as I know we are getting flights tomorrow. Who knows though. I wish I could give you some spotting info. Best I can give you is possibly the Costco parking lot? But thats not good for departures. Let me know when your going through. I might be working.

Two rules in aviation, don't hit anything and don't run out of gas, cause if you run out of gas yer gonna hit something.

Yes they were. Like I said all United and United Express flights were cancelled. The only destination for United in the winter is Denver. So as you can imagine they were all a no go. I also know that a Continental plane I think comming from EWR had to divert to Grand Junction on Wednesday due to poor visibility at the airport. I know it didn't relate to Denver being closed but it was all part of the same storm system that caused the poor visibility.

Hey!
Thanks a lot for that info, I really appreciate it.
I'm fying there today, arriving at 16.40 with AA coming from DFW.
If I go spotting, It'll be on DEC 30th because that's my birthday. Is there a 'rush hour' at EGE?
Thanks mate I really appreciate it!
Best Regards

You'll love the ride into EGE.....gear & flaps out somewhere around 13,000' as you turn final!!!!! LOVE IT
I'd say if you can set up along the road into the airport coming from Gypsum (sp?), little 2 lane road you should be able to see the approach. I've never driven past the airport but from the parking lot near the terminal on the far western end you may get clear pics of the departures as they make their turn to the southwest along Cottonwood Canyon.
Enjoy a great time!!

I'm just speculating, but since EGE doesn't allow night arrivals/departures (for good reason too!) I'm sure there's a decent "rush" right before the sun goes down.

Saturdays are the busiest day at the airport. Everybody seems to have some extra flights comming in and out. We also get US Airways with one or 2 flights a day that don't operate any other day of the week. I think around mid day is a pretty big rush time. Delta flies in a 757 from Atlanta, American has a plane or 2, Northwest has a 757 from Minneapolis, Continental has a 737 and a 757 around mid day, United has an A320 from Denver that arrives at 12:05 leaving at 12:45. It will be a mad house on saturdays. As for night arrivals they are allowed. American has 2 757's that land after dark and spend the night, United has an A320 that lands around 9 or 10 I believe and spends the night. I seem to recal hearing somebody at work the other day mention that we are up to nearly 25 flights commercial flights a day right now out of EGE, maybe it was into EGE and out. Either way its alot of flights for an airport with only 5 gates.

When DEN was closed due to storm, couldn't some of flights into DEN have been diverted to EGE or COS or PUB ???
Actually just checked & PUB is only about 100 miles from Denver City & PUB seems to have a 10500 ft runway & being away from mountains, would it have been effected by storm ???

The majority into EGE are 757s.
Look on Eagle County website under airport and you can find the winter schedule. Between 1000am and 100pm seem the busiest.

the storm that hit DEN hit PUB and COS first. this was an unusual storm for DEN in that the weather came from the south not the west.

Small world - yesterday (December 23) I flew into DFW from STL and arrived at the next gate from your flight to EGE. Who knows, maybe we walked right by each other.
Hope you enjoy EGE... I've always wanted to see that airport, especially on a Saturday in the winter when they get 757s from pretty much every major airline all day long. Take lots of pictures!

Some flights were diverted to COS I don't think PUB is really equiped for the larger a/c I think all they get is B1900's

Very true but COS only got like 8 inches where as Denver got the 24+ It also didn't help that all of the Airports had high wind that day too.. West of the divide the mtn's only got like 3-5 inches! You have to love Colorado's upslope weather

Woah, nice! Well, we didn't cross each other because AA transfered my from gate to gate with a bus! Anyhow, what a coinsidence!
Ok, so I'm gonna go spotting on the 30th. I have to re-check when do most flights arrive. Thanks!

Enjoy your spotting. Too bad your not a day later or a day earlier as I'd be there working. Most arrivals occur around mid day. Hope you get some good shots.

I was going to say...everytime I'm driving that stretch of I-70, I always see A^A 757s there...and always seem to catch at least one taking-off to the west...what a sight and backdrop at that!

Just a quick question to those in the know, why does UA fly 2 A320s, and 2 Dash-8s? It seems like that is a rather strange jump in capacity for the 4 flights that are all daily...
Cheers,
Cameron
25 Dinker225: They fly 2 A320's and 5 Dash 8's throughout the day. None of their other regional planes are certified to fly in here as far as I know. Just as a quic
