On June 14, 2007, TZ will inaugurate non-stop service from OGG - LAS. Is there a possibility that HA will offer this route? Mahalo.

I doubt it. All of HA's mainland flights originate out of HNL. So unless they change that I don't see it happening. Would be cool though  Smile

Not to mention they're kind of shorthanded when it comes to longhaul, widebodies (763s). As it stands, AQ offers daily nonstops to SAN, OAK, SMF, and SNA, but not LAS. Until one budges, chances are the other won't!

On a related note, HA actually purchased three 763s that they had been leasing, possibly signaling a long term commitment to mainland (as well as SYD, Pago Pago, etc.); the original terms were posted on November 30th but finalized today:

Not so. HA operates non-stop between OGG and SEA, OGG and PDX.

That is correct and, IMHO, it would appear that those flights operate to take people to OGG vice transporting locals to the mainland. Conversely, LAS flights exist almost exclusively to take Hawaiians to the "ninth island". Somebody at HA feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Given the tremendous amount of Hawaiians living in LAS, one might think there are plenty of opportunities to open this route.

That is correct. From Maui Hawaiian flies to PDX, SEA and SAN. I would not expect Vegas anytime soon.

IMHO AQ would be more likely to serve Vegas from OGG, but the 73G is just a little short on range.

Don't sweat it - if you look on their full schedule online, it can be tough to differentiate between nonstop and direct flights. I had to doublecheck myself.

Again, locals here that really want to go to Vegas won't think twice about making the 20 min connecting flight over here to HNL to get there.

(Hey Dave, shame on you forgetting about that 2nd beautiful HA Pualani sitting overnight at Lindbergh every night!  Smile )

As to the thread's subject, I would expect HA to concentrate on markets with less competition than a market like LAS where HP/US already flies n/s to OGG. With TZ announcing to start in a few months, that would be quite a few seats already in the market. (Also, remember that HA already operates 2 n/s from LAS to HNL which is probably where most of the traffic is anyway.)

Finally, as mentioned by others, HA is kinda short on a/c right now and I would expect any new fleet additions would be used for new int'l service.

Happy Holidays to All.
