I was just searching the net and wondered when NWA would start up operations at Compass. I know it has been discussed before, but not in 3 months or so and wondered if there was an update.

There first route is supposed to be MSP-IAD.

An update anyone?

Thanks

Did a search, couldn't find anything recent

Its becoming more and more likely that Compass will never actually exist as a revenue passenger carrying airline. It is turning out that it was most likely just another one of Northwest's many ploys to squeeze a few more dollars out of its, Mesaba's, and Pinnacle's employees.

Northwest ended up getting what it wanted with its own employees, it got what it wanted with Mesaba's (and brought the airline to within an inch of death in the process), and as evidenced with Pinnacle's contract recently being signed, got what it wanted with Pinnacle too.

So does that mean that the operating certificate will never get used? Do they put it up for sale?

Pinnacles pilot contract has not been signed. The operating contract between NWA and 9E has indeed been signed, perhaps that's what you meant FlyF15. It's likely that NWA and 9E mgmt will use the new ASA (Airlink Services Agreement) to continue to bully the 9E pilots into a new contract, which falls short of the pilots goals.

Compass will happen I think. Otherwise why buy a bunch of E170s for Compass and CRJ-900s for use by other regionals?

I think Compass will take over some mainline routes need more frequency but the volume is not so much in demand. Odd idea but might be better for yield and profits.

Yes...I am not a KIX fan. Let's Japanese Aviation!

Centrair - I strongly disagree. If you believe Compass will proceed, what do you think the purpose of NWA acquiring Mesaba is? Just because they SAID they bought EMBs for Compass, doesn't mean they HAVE to be flown there. Who is to say that NWAs acquistion of Mesaba is essentially a turn key operation that will replace Compass? Who is to say Mesaba couldn't operate the EMBs and Pinnacle or another carrier to operate the CRJs? Why would they spend the incredible amount of money to create an infastructure for Compass when it already exists at Mesaba?

IMO this mess can go two ways:

Mesaba is acquired by NWA and becomes "Compass." NWA grows Mesaba like crazy and makes incredible amounts of money on the operation and then sells the operation for a guarenteed profit. Employees make short term gains but long term losses.

or

NWA acquires Mesaba from MAIR in the same noncash transaction from above. NWA then liquidates Mesaba, transfers the assets (saabs, infastructure) to BigSky. NWA has an even LOWER cost operator than Mesaba and its pilots and NWA/MAIR get around the MAIR/Mesaba pilots scope letter. Mesaba employees are all out of jobs and mgmt wins.

Two very different scenarios with one common theme. Management always wins, employees continue to get the shaft. I don't trust these people as far as I can throw them.
