Anybody know if UPS's Re-engined B721's are still flying and if so what the plan is for them? They are Stage3 so they could theoretically be around for a while.
Also how many were converted? I understood that UPS had 52 of them but at some point in the past I also saw a private (VIP) 721 (re-engined) being advertised. How many conversions were done in total.

I still love the 727 as it is one of the true classic designs and would be nice if they were around for a while longer.

who decided that a Horizon should be HORIZONtal???

There were a total of 52 727-100's re-engined with the Tay 651-54. UPS had 51 of them, the other was the VIP bird you speak of.

UPS has been phasing them out. 14 still in active service, 15 stored in Roswell, NM, and 22 chopped up.

One of them served an ad-hoc route running Louisville-->Manchester (NH)-->Roanoke (VA) during the last Christmas week, to go along with the A300s, 757s, 767-300s, and DC-8s they cycled through here.
