Today the last United DC-10-10 flight will operate. Flight UA0153, operated by N1837U, will leave ORD at 7:35pm and arrive in SFO at 9:56pm. R.I.P.

Are you sure that that is the last DC-10 flight? I don't think so concidreing that they have 4 non-cargo planes left.

I live in Chicago. I was planning to take a picture but unfortunetely too dark outside. Darn it! Happy Retire DC-10! I have flown on United DC-10 five times. Coincidence, that my last time flight was the same route ORD-SFO last Aug. 8th, 1996. God Bless all DC-10!

Just for clarification, this is not the last DC-10 flight with United, just the last DC-10-10 flight. They still have 4 -30 freighters and 3 -30 pax aircraft in service.

Just a slight correction to the above information. Both N1835U and N1837U made their final passenger flights tonight. They were the last remaining D10-10's in Pax service with UA. N1837U actually operated as flight 157 ORD-SFO. N1835U operated as flight 153 ORD-SFO. Ship 3135 was the last one to leave ORD, about 2 hrs after its sistership. Both aircraft will be ferried to LAS tomarrow around noon SFO time.
I had the pleasure of shooting the breeze with the flight engineer for awhile in the cockpit before the flight departed. He said he is retiring as soon as we get rid of the D10-30's. Although he joked about the antiquity of the D10's systems, he did seem like he would miss the old buzzards. He explained a lot of the systems on his panel to me, and demonstrated how some of them work.
Before I left, I asked the crew if they were willing to autograph a DC10 photo I had with me. They were more than happy to sign it.
I watched the pushback, and I watched the old bird taxi to runway 32L at the T-10 intersection. In the 8800' of available runway, I watch the graceful bird pick up speed, rotate near the end of the runway, and fly away one last time into the night sky.

Just a little FYI....N1836U, a DC10-10, has been sitting out near UA hangar 5 for the past month. It is retired as well. It is being used as a de-icing training aid. I got to spray it last week. Today I noticed the titles on the fuselage and the logo on the tail painted over. It should be here about another month before it too departs for the West

Well if any of you get nostalgic - Ryan operates a pair of -10-10s out of SFO to HNL/OGG/KOA/LIH. They are parked at the NEW international terminal.

Hi!

Another mark in United history! I'm glad I had the chance of flying 2 years ago in two United DC-10-10's. One was N1811U from ORD to DEN still with old livery, I know that a few weeks latter the plane was wfu! The second one was N1847U from DEN to SEA. When I booked my flight I could choose the the traject ORD to SEA the UA 777 or even the 747 but I choosed the DC-10 and finnally I got a bonus because the plane should make a stop in DEN and keep the same plane but actually just a few minutes before we landed they said that we should change planes, so I got a second DC-10!
Regards!

I am glad that they have been retired, United still has the scars after what happened with Flt 232 at Sioux City
with one of those DC-10-10s.

It is sad to see my old office retiring the –30 aircraft will retire from service January or February 2001 both pax, and WWC DC-10-30’s! She was a great bird and I enjoyed my many years flying her! I do plan on being on the final DC-10-30 pax flight ORD-HNL or HNL-ORD!
