Will Sales Pick Up For The CRJ-900 In 2007?

Hey all,

Just curious to get your thoughts on the prospects for the CRJ-900 in the new year. Lufthansa seems to be really pleased with the performance of the aircraft and Bombardier has advertisements in Flight International stating the aircraft had 100% "schedule completion rate" for some four months of the operation of the jet.

Will Lufthansa order more than the 12 planes they currently have?

Any other operators that are looking to add these planes to their fleet?

The carriers that have ordered/operate the planes are:

5. Arik Air
6. Northwest

Don't think AC Jazz can order more unless mainline buys more E175s,
which I think is unlikely. Given the somewhat higher unit labour costs
at mainline, the E175s are likely lower yield than the E190s.

An active thread about MAT has a poster suggesting that MAT struggles with lease payments for the CRJ900, so the last two CR9 may never join the fleet as MAT struggle financially.

I hope LH CityLine will order more CR7 and/or CR9 as LH has enjoyed a lot of growth recently, and I'm sure their CRJ200 are simply becoming too small. However, the CR2 won't be easy to just dispose of as the secondhand market is poor for the type. I think there is a pilot scope clause lurking in the wings as well.

Airliner World wrote that Kazakhstan Air(?) was in final negotiations for six CR9. Hope that becomes a reality.

I would love it if OS buy CR7 or CR9 for Austrian Arrows.

Air One has options for four more CR9, I believe, and with domestic competitor MyWay getting 19 x CR9, Air One may need the extra four to match capacity and frequency.

Didn't Bombardier plan to launch the CRJ900X in Nov-Dec 2006?

It appears that Air One CityLiner will indeed increase their fleet and exercise all of the options they hold one the CR9. This is taken directly from the airlines website:

"Air One CityLiner fleet is at moment composed of four new Bombardier's CRJ900 which entered service in June 2006 and it will be progressively increased to reach the total number of 10 CRJ900." http://www.flyairone.it/en/Corporate/CityLiner.aspx

I also read on a topic regarding the Mexican airline industry for 2007 that ALMA of Mexico has ordered 4 x CRJ-900 for operations in 2007. Anyone have any further information on this news??

?? I thought the CRJ700 was limited to 70 pax. The -705s AC Jazz flies are 10J/64Y IIRC. Physically it's the same plane as the CRJ900 that LH CityLine fly,
amonst others.

The CRJ-700 is limited to 78 passengers, the -705 is limited to 75 pax. I was incorrect as well tho.

I believe that is the case indeed, so it should be possible to re-certify if the need is there.

P.S. The Bombardier website only lists 8 CRJ-900 operators, but is not complete (for example, there is a photo of N800SK of SkyWest in the database, but not on their website)

That's nice. I think it's great that Bombardier is picking up some orders here and there, if only the quantity was a bit larger.

As best I know, the scope ratios for Jazz are not linked to the E175 or any other aircraft type, but to total aircraft. If AC adds sufficient ASMs and net fins - there are different ratios for narrowbody and widebody - Jazz can add both ASMs and net fins. I don't see this happening in 2007, but it could happen in 2008 as the E-190 deliveries are completed. Certainly, swapping out 767-200s for 777-300ERs will generate a lot of net ASM growth, but not a lot of fin growth. More of that will happen with the E-190 deliveries. So Jazz might be able to order some 705s (probably no more than 7) for 2008 delivery, but I do not have any indication that it will do so.

OK, thought it was straight fin count. I've been on the -705 a couple of times now and it is a big step up from the 100/200 family. haven't been on the Jungle Jet yet, I hear mixed reviews about them. Pax good, mx bad. Although most new types have lots of teething troubles.

Well, with another thread here saying that Delta is looking to buy 30 x CRJ900 with options for 30 more, I'd say that the future doesn't look that bad for the CRJ "NextGen" (700/705/900).

Bombardier's official backlog ending Oct 31 shows 2 x CRJ701 and 78 x CRJ900. Brit Air officially ordered 3 x CRJ701 in Nov, and if the airlines mentioned in this thread order what we have speculated about (Tatarstan: 6 x CR9, Air One: 4 x CR9, Delta: 30 x CR9, ALMA: 4 x CR9), then the CRJ NG is heading towards 500 frames.

256 x CRJ701 + 15 x CRJ705 + 197 x CRJ900 = 468 frames.

Not too shabby, that...?

Wow. not many 700s being produced. i guess airlines have learned puttin 70 seats in an airplan that can hold 90 works better. nice pitch. maybe mesa/skywest/go jets will get some for UA.

Do not forget that Arik Air ordered a fourth CRJ900 which I don't think ever made it on the October customer list from Bombardier.

It seems as though Lufthansa will put together another order for the CRJ900. So the order book will soon be put over the 200+ number which is great for the program.

That's not a huge backlog, though. maybe one year's production.
Absent the DL order, production will likely slow again.
But it _is_ selling, slowly but surely. As you state, 468 sales ain't that bad.
