I was just curious as to how does EY and EK compare when flying into Dubai, considering with EY you can fly into AUH and then be bussed to Dubai. How long is the bus ride? Are econ tix comparably lower on EY? Is the bus ride free? What about premium pax? Do they get shuttled between the two cities in limos or so?

Cheers,
Coal

I think that the bus in free for the economy class, the premium class get a private car (Mercedes as i think).

The bus ride in not more than 75 minutes, i believe it is shorter when in a private car, they drop you on the check-in facility on Shk. Zayed road, it is located on one of the buildings in there, if i drive it will take only 45 minutes  Wink

What about fares? Are they comparably lower to EK if you plan on going to DXB instead of AUH?

Cheers,

from canada, ek's fares to DXB are cheaper than EYs!!!

even QR have a cheaper DXB/AUH fare than EY!!!

i seriously doubt that many pax would want to fly to DXB via AUH + a bus ride unless the fare diff between EY and EK is approx USD 80-100 as its really not worth it considering the horrendous traffic that now exists in DXB/SHJ.

QR and EY are not considering profit as an objective, their owners just want them to expand and grow, never think about money!

while EK put the profit on their top priority list.
thats why EK fares are higher than QR & EY

Unless the fare difference is considerable flying into DXB is best on EK, QR, GF etc that land in DXB itself. As far as traffic goes though DXB - AUH is far more manageable than DXB - SHJ which is nightmarish to say the least. About 75 minutes is what it generally takes to cover DXB-AUH.
Cheers and have a good trip

i used the EY service into AUH and then connected onto a coach to DXB in september. Journey time was about 1 hour, the traffic was light. There were 2 coaches waiting and only about 10 people on the coach. A video was played and water was handed out by the driver. The coach drops you off at the Eithad offces in central Dubai.

next flights : BD LHR-TXL J, FR SXF-STN Y, SN BRU-LHR Y, MA LHR-BUD Y, BA BUD-LHR J, BA LCY-SNN-JFK J, BA JFK-LHR J, BA

If you are flying business or first then i would sure as hell recommend it for 2 reasons:

1,95% of the time in EK you'd be stuck in a joke of a business class whereas almost all of EY's fleet features the best business class flat bed around.

2,Upon landing in AUH you would be very effeciently picked up by a clean and torquey Mercedes E220 CDI,either sedan or estate, who will get you into DXB within the hour. They will also come and pick you up not only in DXB but practically anyplace in the UAE to take you to AUH for the return flight.

Unless i am so time contrained that i cant possibly spend another hour on the road (which is usually never) i would always use EY to DXB in premium class.

I used the Bus from AUH to DXB and it was horrible, so was the flight in an ex SIA A340. Because i was a non rev i had to use the bus.
Overall i intend to give EY another Chance using a newer Aircraft but definitly not when I'm heading for DXB.

Fly QR they are excellent and DOH is a nice coneecting Airport.

My friend when i first flew EY i did KHI-AUH and AUH-BRU in their B767-300 and ex TAM A332 in DEC 2005 and believe me it wasnt just horrible but i was appalled that i paid for that much for a business class that appeared to be straight out of mid-90's on a US based carrier. But now when i fly on their new customized planes,i almost wont fly any other airline(those flat beds are super).

My argument for flying EY into AUH for DXB is based solely on the condition that one is flying premium class since that would incorporate the lounge and most importantly the door to door limo service.Flying Y class into AUH makes no real sense to me as the coach class products are more or less the same.

Only the A343 (A6-EYC), the 767 (A6-EYZ), and the two A330's (A6-EYV & A6-EYW) have below-par interiors... The 343 does some varying routes, Frankfurt and the other day did Casablanca. Also does Columbo some times.

The two oldest RR powered A332's A6-EYD & A6-EYE have newer interiors, but not to the EY spec as they are leased from Airbus.

Etihad own-specifications birds are....

A332 2 Class: EYF, EYG, EYH, EYI, EYJ are new A332's with flat beds in J.
A332 3 Class: EYK has flat beds in J, and their new F class.
B773 2 Class: ETA ETB ETC ETD ETE have the flat bed in J.

A306, A313, A319, A320, A321, A332, A343, A345, A346 A388, AC90, B06, B722, B732, B733, B735, B738, B744, B762, B772, B7
