According to CAAC, Air China has submit application to start 4 weekly Beijing - St. Petersburg flight.

The flight, to be launched in June 2007, with a 777.

The soon-to-be Star Alliance carrier currently flies daily 777 to Moscow, while AEROFLOT plans double daily 767 from 25MAR07.

If I remember correctly, 2007 is the "Year of China in Russia" after last year's "Year of Russia in China", so I think the timing of this application is fairly well planned. Also Aeroflot has started a 4x weekly service to HKG, so perhaps CA sees that it's time to get it's foot in the market.

I flew Air China PEK-SVO a couple of years ago on a B777 and it was the emptiest flight I can remember - something like 30 people on board... This news must mean it was not a common occurence!

You know, I first read that, and I thought you meant that Air China applied for service to St. Petersburg-Clearwater, and was about to say that either you or they were absolutely nuts!

I guess when North Americans heard about St. Petersburg, they're the only one thought it's the one in the states  Wink
