AirTran: New FLL-BUF

AirTran will begin Saturday service between Ft. Lauderdale and Buffalo 17 February through 15 April:

FL 521 FLL 0920-1210 BUF Sa 717
FL 522 BUF 1255-1545 FLL Sa 717

This makes thirteen cities served on airTran from Ft. Laduerdale.

Year-round: Atlanta, Baltimore, Boston, Detroit, Gulfport/Biloxi, Newport News, Stewart, and White Plains.

Seasonal: Akron/Canton, Buffalo, Indianapolis, Pittsburgh, Rochester.

From nearby Miami there is year-round service to Atlanta and Chicago/Midway and seasonal flights to Indianapolis; West Palm Beach is served year-round to Atlanta, Chicago/Midway, and White Plains, seasonally to Baltimore and Indianapolis.

If Spirit were ever to pull back in FLL, I could see FL making an even bigger push down there. Are they operating all of those flights out of 2 gates?

I think BUF-FLL could work since it's about 80 miles from
YYZ which has high fares and taxes on YYZ-FLL route.
I imagine alot of Canadians drive to BUF to pay lower fares
to florida. seems like FL has two gates in FLL...E2 and E4
which are the old CO gates and maybe EA before CO.
I see that E6 was the old HP gate and is sometimes used
by Airtran. can anyone confirm?

As I recall, Quickmover, on my last few flights to FLL we were using E2 and E4 extensively and E6 was on an as-needed basis. E6 is a US gate so we're probably paying them a prettey penny. On one occation we were even put at F2 due to a mechanical issue with an a/c at one of the E gates.

Things are probably scheduled to work out with those 2 gates - as long as everything is running smoothly and on-time... and how many days do ALL the flights run on-time? From FLL? Especially in summer?

By the way, is there no room in FLL for expansion? Everything there seems packed rather tightly together precluding any further construction. Does FLL have a 5 or 10 year master plan for growing traffic (like TPA)?

Another about time out of FLL! Now I'm become VERY VERY Happy. First I get non stops to HPN, then SWF and now BUF! All that is missing is BTV and ALB nonstop to make me happy.

The only thing is that I can't believe they are doing Sat only and that sucks. Normally Sat only into FLL is designed for cruise pax and generally don't make it thru the summer, when most Floridians head up for vacation, low season.

I certainy would have assumed B6 would have jumped on that one with the E jets. I know they are huring for gate space, but look at what FL is doing with 2-3 gates! Air Tran certainly would be my sports team. Defensive and offensive Nice!

Yes.... but ..... Stupid NIMBYs. Gosh they piss me off!
