Wow - they really snuck this by everyone, didn't they?! It's going to be fun watching JL's 744s taking off from 8L for the next few days. For anyone that's unfamiliar with HNL, all aircraft departing from 8L face a sharp turn out to a heading of about 130 to avoid passing over downtown Honolulu (and my building, in particular!) and the Ko'olau Mountains which lie about 6-8 miles from the threshold. I, for one, am looking forward to the noise.

well this sucks... i go home to HNL often and visit the extended family. anyways, i stay w/ my auntie who lives in Kalihi just off of H-1 and she has an excellent view of the airport area. it'll be interesting to see the tight turns these planes make. they make pretty tight turns as it is already just using the reef rwy.
deffenatlly a good time to get some pictures! (wish i could be there for it) *LOL*

I can already see a number of vehicles on 8R but can't tell what they're doing (it's not even 5am!). I'll grab as many pics as I can although the aircraft look so small on my digital camera (even with a zoom).
