Nobody believed me when I mentioned that maybe Horizon would start to complement the LAX operation with CR7 a/c out of LAX, and just announced was Horizon's new SMF flight and the added LAX flight. Can't get a link, can somebody help with that. Flight effective July 1

Good news for GEG - does this mean there will be 2 daily flights to LAX (one AS, one QX)?

I'm a bit puzzled about SMF though - seems like SFO would make a lot more sense, given that it currently doesn't have any service from GEG.

Doesn't UA Express fly between SFO and GEG?

RwSea. Though surprised no SFO service was added, SMF doesn't surprise me. I have a feeling that SMF is going to reflect the size of BOI at some point with Horizon. QX has mentioned building a California hub and also a the possibility of a new maintenance base. *cough SMF cough* maybe!

No, although WN has a GEG-OAK nonstop.

It's been performing very well, so they are adding a second daily n/s this spring as well.

They used to once upon a time....

I have always thought SMF would be a perfect place for a regional hub....centrally located, lots of room, inexpensive to operate from, growing area...it all fits.

I'm reasonably certain that that WN served SMF-GEG at one point...anyone with more info on how that worked out?

This is defiantly a good thing. There are alot of excited people at the GEG station with this announcement. Especially since it was decided to keep the AS flight to LAX instead of replacing it with a CR7 as well.

I would like to see GEG grow with alot more flights. Seems like you have to fly through SEA to get some where. LAX i thought was needed since AS x1 flight. The CRJ 700 will do fine on this route. What about a GEG-YVR non-stop? Robert NWDC10

That makes a whole lot of sense. AS appears to get good yields on the flight and there is sufficient traffic between the two cities to make it work.

Surprisingly not, even though they offer service to SEA, DEN, and ORD.

AS/QX actually has a larger presence at SMF than one would think. There are quite a few frequencies to SEA and PDX, plus the LAX/BOI/PSP flights. All of this is in competition with WN as well.

Perhaps, just keeping in mind the competition from WN. However, AS doesn't seem to have as much trouble competing with them as the other carriers.

Don't forget the connections to Mexico as well - the current AS flight is timed to meet those flights. This flight will be more about O&D.

A bit off topic..But why doesn't AA fly into GEG? I mean would be great to have GEG-DFW and/or GEG-ORD service.

The new WN flights provide better connections to ATA's Hawaii flights.

Also, don't forget about cargo. AS 204 takes alot of cargo to LAX every morning.

It seems GEG SFO on Skywest..probably a CRJ-200 would work.. I am surprised not to see this flight already. Not sure what UA and OO are waiting on...probably a equip. shortage issue more than anything..

If QX is looking at building a hub (small or big) in California (besides LAX), I wonder if some of those Q200's will work their way down there.

The Dash-8/200 are being retired from the Horizon fleet. There plan is to go to CR7 and Q400 only. SMF or FAT seemed like prime cities for more QX flights, thats for sure.

The GEG-LAX flight is going to be a real headache. We have no gave availablity at that time. But who knows what the summer shcedule has in hand.

With the additional planes Horizon will be recieving, does the airline plan to add service to PDX as well in 2007?

Out of curiosity, how many O&D pax travel between GEG and SMF every day? I didn't think it would be high enough to warrant a nonstop flight.

And on another topic, does anyone think that GEG could support N/S service to a large east coast hub such as: EWR/JFK (CO/B6), IAD (UA), BWI (WN), ATL (DL)?

25 FATFlyer : I've been hearing about possible more flights and destinations from FAT since QX started here a few years ago.
26 AS739X : Hocky55....Nope, highly doubt it. It did very poorly and had no real connections on either end. ASLAX
27 RwSEA : Of that group, ATL would make the most sense. DL seems to do pretty well on their flights to SLC. Currently, GEG has service to ORD and MSP, but noth
28 Alaska737 : any idea when this will start and finish?
29 Flyboy7974 : Hockey55Dude - not many others remember that service too much, SAN-BOI. Came at a time when Horizon tried a BOI buildup all over the west with flights
30 BigGSFO : I agree. I fly to GEG about 5 times a year and would love a non-stop from SFO. IIRC, UA used to send mainline SFO-GEG. Now everything is via SEA/PDX
