Well, its not exactly in LA, but there is a great museum in San Diego, at Balboa Park, the San Diego Aerospace Museum. San Diego is a great place to visit anyway, skip Los Angeles and just do San Diego.

There is an Aerospace Museum as part of the Los Angeles Museum of Science and Industry complex, adjacent to the Unversity of Southern California. There is also an aviation museum at the Santa Monica Municipal Airport. In addition, there are some historical pictures and descriptions in the terminal at Long Beach Municipal Airport (go inside the check-in building and upstairs, and also on the first floor there's a lounge adjacent to the gift shop).

Why don't you go to the Museum of Flight at the Santa Monica airport in L.A.? It is an historic home of the Douglas Aircraft company. Screw the person who said skip L.A.
