German states of Lower Saxony, Bremen, Hamburg to take stakes in EADS - report
FRANKFURT (AFX) - The German states of Lower Saxony, Bremen and Hamburg are planning to take stakes in EADS to maintain the European aerospace giant's delicate Franco-German balance of power, the dpa news agency reported.
The agency cited Lower Saxony's chief minister Christian Wulff as saying that his state will "contribute actively" to keeping EADS's Franco-German power structure intact.
It also quoted a spokesman for the Senate of Bremen as saying: "It's clear, Bremen will take part in a solution just like Lower Saxony and Hamburg".
Hamburg has already announced it would invest in EADS, dpa said.
A report in yesterday's Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung daily said Lower Saxony will invest 80 mln eur in EADS for a three- or four-year period.

The state government of Hamburg has supported the A380, and is one of a number of German states which want to invest in Airbus, buying a 7.5 per cent stake in the company being sold by current shareholder Daimler Chrysler.
However, insiders indicate that making the change will eliminate duplication of both narrow and wide-body production facilities at the two plants and generate significant one-off savings.
It doesn't seem like such a bad deal if Germany got all the A320 family (forget the China plant) and Toulouse got all the wide body production.
Couldn't this be further balanced by putting more design jobs in Germany (after they upgrade their CAD software), and as soon as planes are able to fly, sending them back to Hamburg for interior finishing?
