Hi Guys,
Just got back from MIA where I went to put my son on JJ8095 to GRU. At the check-in counter the TAM employees told every passanger about the aircraft change and presented all passanger with a $200 voucher to be used next time they travel with TAM. I was really surprised because not one single American carrier would have done that. I really believe that TAM with this has taken their responsibility and they also with this are showing that they still are striving to remain a World Class airline.
The less good thing was the the flight scheduled to depart MIA at 8:45 actually took off at 9:52 which will put them an hour and seven minutes behind. Would be interesting to know what will happen with the connections at GRU. My son is supposed to connect to CNF.
I also had a little chat with one of the captains the flight actually had two captains and he said that he thought the MD,s could be flying in a couple of weeks and that they were painted. Interesting to see if someone might be able to shoot a picture of the MD,s.
It seems that the MD-11s are not going to enter service before mid February, and because of that the MIA flight is to be operated by an A320 until then.

Quoting Tonytifao (Reply 1): Was the flight originaly scheduled with a MD11 and it was a A320?
Tony, the M11 is scheduled for MIA just by the middle of march (it should be the 3rd M11 to be received by JJ)

Take a look on Infraero website, they have a feature called "SivNet" to see departures/arrivals on all their airports, you could see the schedule ETD for your son's flight GRU-CNF.

This is good for people that use to fly like us But i imagine someone that travel not so often... there are no way to keep 100% satisfied. Meanwhile, i agree that they are trying to keep their pax happy even with the change.

The flight I assume would have been with MD11 because the A330 was moved to the CDG flight. The nice thing here is that most passangers did not have a clue about the aircraft change and the TAM employees explained the situation with the fuel stop in Manaus and at the same time handed out a 200 U.S. dollar voucher to every single passanger. I did not expect that and I was impressed. For us in the U.S. this would not have happened with our airlines. They could have replaced a 777 with a Shorts without compensation but, TAM did a very nice gesture and I did not hear one single complain among the passangers.

Lasse, the initial plan:
- Jan 12, 1 A332 with F from GRU-CDG moved to GRU-JFK
- Jan 12, 1 A332 without F from GRU-JFK moved to GIG-CDG
- Jan 12, A new M11 takes care of GRU-CDG flight
- Jan 13, 1 A332 with F arriving CDG-GRU moved to daylight GRU-JFK
- Jan 13, 1 A332 without F from JFK-GRU moved by night to GIG-CDG
- Jan 13, another M11 takes care of GRU-CDG flight.
- Mar 19, 1 M11 takes care of GRU-MIA daylight
- Mar 19, 1 A332 from MIA grounded for maintenance
- Mar 30, 1 A332 from maintenance begins GRU-MXP-GRU

No, they will not have PTV,s. The MD11,s is only short term part of the 773 deal and will have TAM livery and new seat covers ala TAM but that's pretty much it.
