Delta's 737-300s

Delta currently operates about 26 leased 737-300s. Some are used on western routes (and indeed are ex-Western -347s) from SLC, and the rest are used from the ATL hub to points in the Southeast and on the East Coast.

My question: How much longer will those in ATL be around? Do the leases expire any time soon?

Those 733's will be around until DL starts to phase out the MD80's. Delta's future fleet will look something like this:

717/736
73G (replaces MD-80 and 733)
738 (replaces 727)
757
767
777

Didn't Delta inherit those 737-300s when they bought Western Airlines in the early 80s?

DL inherited the 737-347s from Western(13), but also operates another 13 leased a/c. These were acquired from several leasing sources.

The a/c were previously operated by Germania(9) and Western Pacific/USAir(4)

The 737-300's that operate out of ATL are all ex-Germania aircraft. The aircraft arrived on DL property in pretty bad shape, and spent numerous weeks in the hanger being brought up to DL specs. The parts base for the -300's are mainly out west...DFW and SLC. This has unfortunately brought the reliability of the 737 ATL operation to unacceptable levels. Look for these aircraft to make their way to the DFW base as the 737-200's are moved to the Express operation. The old Western planes are operating at superb dispatch reliability rates. Look for these planes to remain in the DL fleet for at least another 5 years.

Cba: Is the 73G the 737-700? I am guessing that it is since DL has such a large order for NG737s. I have flown DLs 733s many times (I live near SLC) and they are in really good shape. Usually very clean. They also look good in the new-old livery.

We get the Delta 733's at STL always, and I hate them. I would much rather have an MD80 727 or 738. I dislike the Delta 733 and all the planes in the new old livery.

How can two people who obviously have such good tase in airplanes (Tristar) disagree on the 733s? Just Kidding. I guess I would feel the same way if that is all we got at SLC. So, Turbo, which DL livery do you like the most?

Yes, the 73G is the 737-700.
